Title: questions for unicomp:
Post by: wellington1869 on Tue, 16 June 2009, 16:22:47
A thread for questions to be submitted to the Unicomp representative.

I'll start with ripster's request that they post the dimensions of their keyboards on their website.

(actually i suppose we can have one thread for questions for any manufacturer's representatives).

I'd like to know why they can't just drop the built in numpad functionality of the IBM spacesaver and use a standard controller...  Screw the numpad, if somebody buys a tenkeyless 'board they don't want/need a numpad.... If they dropped that functionality they could use the standard Customizer 101/104 controller... Wow, this turned into a rant that would better be placed in the petition thread...

Only if the membrane has the same layout.

My question would be why they don't produce the M2 in black with blank keys.

lol, s'alright. I'll clean up the questions here, organize them, and submit them in an orderly list.

As in the SAME membrane sheet or arrangement of the contacts or what?  I don't care if they have to fold the sheet over, just get the thing in production!

Personally, I'd generalize the question to "Why not allow the customer to specify keycap type and case colour seperately?"

Maybe something like:

"Connector Type - USB / PS/2"
"Mechanism - Springs / Membrane"
"Case Colour - Black / White"
"Key Colour - White / Silver / Black with no lettering"

I wouldn't mind the white/tan keys from the white SpaceSaver on a black Customizer case, for example.  (I'd swap with a 1391401, but they lack the right bottom row)

I think a good "Will this shut you up?" question would be if they could basically summarize what their facilities are capable of-- "We can't do A, B, C, or D because X, and we can't do E, F, G, and H because of Y, so stop asking!"

my question would be: are you planning to close down unicomp at some point in the next 10 years? OR is your goal to be a long running viable business for as long as possible even after the current set of managers retire?

unicomp, SPEAK! we know you are out there hahahahaa

can you make a better usb ibm m15, maybe in black?

can you make a better usb ibm mini, maybe in black?

can you make an external usb buckling spring numpad with media keys (utilizing those clear caps)?

can you make all white keys with black legends?

and all black keys with white legends?

how much cashola would it take to buy out a chief operator?

i know the real unicomp can answer these questions.

::insert sarcasm over there::

"Why does your product portfolio rely so much on traditional keyboard models?  I.e., why do you seem to shy away from innovating and creating novel products that are clearly not based on the original IBM models?"

"What's the true story with the BS tenkeyless?"
