Title: Carbon fiber keyboard case?
Post by: DrHubblePhD on Thu, 11 September 2014, 21:10:13
Has anyone attempted to create a custom keyboard case out of carbon fiber using a mold and carbon fiber strips?

If I had it to do over I would make a female mold of the outside of a thin-walled metal case and a male mold of the inside. Then sandwich all layers at one time. The same way they make CF car hoods (actually quite similar, both have an outside where finish is important and an inside with structure).

There are some great videos on making carbon fiber parts with vacuum bagging.    A project of this size is a great way to start and the results can be very production quality.
