there is a Kickstarter project to create USB cables (to mini-B available) that are reversible. The cables are braided as well. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/madeincollege/belaycords-reversible-usb-charging-cords-iphone-an?ref=popular

kickstarters are worse than group buys :P

Idkkk... this doesn't seem very sturdy.. and without the more rigid insert piece, I feel like if the cable got tugged, it might break connection?
Overall... I think Lightning has been great, and we should just use something like that for everything...

Lightning port is massive overkill for input devices. :P
What's wrong with USB? It's easily the most ubiquitous device port (tied with VGA maybe).

i don't mean direct pcie, etc etc..
I just mean the solid one piece design.. usb is quite fragile.

Just wait until next year when USB type C plug comes out. It will be a standard at least for first USB that can be inserted either way. I hope it ends up replacing everything else that USB has used.

100watts eh? finally death by USB...

USB-C!
Though kickstarters are awful.
I've participated in 3. 1 turned out to be a scam, 1 turned out exactly as planned and the last turned out half-assed.

IMO, the selling point should be the reversible USB portion, but it just sounds like a "sell to Apple idiots" kickstarter to me.

Makes sense considering apple is either trying or tried to patent this idea already. Plus, considering the costs involved in getting MFi certification that's required to have usable lightning cables, you might as well target the **** out of them.
That being said, holy **** that price.

100W = 5A at 20V. Unless your soldering probes to the power leads and stabbing them into your wrists, then finding a way to request the 100W power mode, I think you will be fine.

You know those movie scenes where hack0rz kill people by electrifying them through computer-gear?

USB 3.1 100W... Wait, I just thought of something  we can now make less energy efficient backlit keyboards without LED flicker. ;D
