Title: Poker II hardware hack
Post by: kirkvomit on Sun, 14 September 2014, 07:00:39
Hi guys!

I want to remap CAPS LOCK on my poker to PN button, is it possible?

you could do it like Samwisekoi (Ron) on his kb:

With a knife, some wire, and a soldering iron, you can remap any key!  :p  I completely rewired a QFR into the Colemak layout this way.

Oh wow, that's amazing! Do you have pictures?

Most people would have gone for just a replacement controller, but that's really going all out!

The WASDv2 wasn't out and I didn't know about replacement controllers, so I just went at it cutting traces and rewiring.  It looks horrible, but it gets the job done.

(I tried to do the same thing to a QFR Stealth, but that board has a much higher quality PCB and the traces were almost impossible to cut.  I gave up, resoldered the couple traces I cut, and went back to OS remapping.)

That spaghetti wiring, haha. Good stuff.

You don't see the wiring from the outside. Looks great to me. What caps are those, by the way?

Problem that I'm not so knowledgeable in this area  :(.

If I will cut traces that are coming from CAPS LOCK and connect the pins of PN key and CAPS LOCK with 2 wires, will I get what I wanted?
What will happen if I press PN and CAPS together?
The thing that scares me that there are many resistors on the plate and I do not know why they are there.

Says it right under the 3rd pic: "With black keys for maximum contrast.  These are WASD's new UV printed keys.  The texture works well with the paint." ;) WASD Keyboards (http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keycap-set.html).

If you do it right, what you will get is two PN keys and no caps lock.

If you want to swap PN and Caps lock, that is still possible but it is more complex.

If you don't understand basic circuitry, you should probably avoid modifications of this nature.

The thing that scares me that there are many resistors on the plate and I do not know why they are there.

Those are probably diodes, not resistors.  They are there to prevent ghosting and allow N-key rollover, by keeping the matrix from feeding back into itself.

I guess I glossed over that because I assumed they couldn't be WASD keys. They look good. Really good.

Yeah weyman changed from lasering to UV recently: I'm really impressed with the quality of the UV stuff.
