Title: Good 60% with a built in USB hub?
Post by: halfkiller on Fri, 19 September 2014, 12:10:54
Does such a keyboard exist?  Just picked up a winbook tablet and it has a full size USB port and a 60% would be perfect for travel -  one with a built in USB port (not pass through)  would be ideal.

I know I could Google it,  but the fine people on geekhack.org tend to be the most knowledgeable when it comes to keyboards :).

HHKB Pro2
The HHKB-lite2 has a hub, too -- and dedicated arrow keys. Just no keyswitches (rubber dome, but very nice for it).

built in hubs are an oddity in nice keyboards; you might have to ad-lib in this wise:

Then you'd plug the extension cord into the computer, the hub into that, and set it next to the keyboard because you've got a very short cord going from keyboard to hub.

Of course, that assumes you have something of a desk to set the hub on. Taping the hub to the keyboard would look just a bit tacky but would remove the dangling-weight problem.

HHKB Pro 2 would be the only "mechanical" keyboard that fits the bill. It's expensive, though, so you'll have to weigh the cost versus simply carrying around a USB hub and using a cheaper keyboard.

Don't forget the Maitas Quiet Pro

They have a few products with a USB hub.

Though it fits the criteria, that keyboard is hard to find. Only place I've seen it is on Massdrop.

Hadn't thought about that one. Good catch.

MMMM more choices than I thought. I just picked up a 4 port USB port, but one built into the keyboard would equal one less thing to carry around. Hm.... decisions decisions decisions .....  The HHK is a topre esc board right ?
