Title: Do you like Soymilk ?
Post by: tp4tissue on Mon, 22 September 2014, 10:53:09
Important graph for DIY ...

PER is protein quality..  more is better.

- You want to cook the soymilk for at least 20mins @ 120C ( standard 15psi Pressure cooker)  to disable the Trypsin inhibitor  which works against protein absorption.

Soy milk is fantastic. Can't say that I would ever plan on making my own though. I think I'll stick to the store bought variety.

I calculated the cost..  it's not economical if you make small batches on your own.

But if you make at least 4 gallons at a time..  It is quite time efficient..

However, the issue then becomes..   is it healthy to put down 4 gallons of soymilk before it spoils, probably 2 weeks max in fridge.(http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/vomiting-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862523)

I can't drink milk, soy, or almond milk. Though I can drink so delicious coconut milk! Love it! :)

I can't stand soy milk. Curdled soy milk = tofu, is great. There are also soy-based types of ice cream that have only a mild taste of soy and is very nice and creamy.

I use milk mostly in coffee. Because cow's milk is a buffer solution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffer_solution), it makes coffee taste less sour. No milk substitute (soy, almond, rice, ...) has that property - they only make it worse by altering the coffee taste, which cow's milk doesn't.
For cereal, I most often have yoghurt.

**** no, cow milk is the only way to go. Almond milk is an acceptable substitute only if you are visiting some lactose intolerant coward, or giant walking vagina who claims vegan. All other milk subs are gross, I'm looking at you rice milk. Especially rice milk.

Actually tried almond milk for the first time several months ago and have been replacing my normal milk with it since, but haven't ventured into Soy territory.

I had regular Soymilk in my cereal 2 days ago and it was a battle to finish it.  That stuff is foul!  Maybe the unsweetened is better?  I would rather have cereal with water.  Note that I can't drink regular milk due to lactose intolerance and Lactaid is out of my minuscule monthly food budget (oatmeal for breakfast is much cheaper).

Most transformed foods are WAY overrated. WAY WAY WAY overrated. Nature produce some super nice foods that are healty and contain everything (in most cases) that is required to properly absorb the nutrients. Tthat's not the case with many transformed foods.

And they put so much crap in transformed foods it's crazy. Powder protein? No thx.

But this soy milk could be ok, but while I like to drink milk, I don't drink too much of it either. I recently switched to 1% milk (from 2%) and it's good.

It's already pretty prevalent due to plastic chemical leakage bottles. There's an actual science into why teenage girls these days generally have bigger tits then 2-3 decades ago.

The first time i made coconut milk, i used raw coconut..

And... basically had explosive p00 all evening..

The 2nd time I made it.. I steamed the coconut meat prior to making the milk, and It went down just fine.. (http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/whaaat3-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862525)

Mrs likes Soy Milk (if that's what it's called) due to it containing isoflavones that are similar to estrogen.

Better to drink real coffee as full strength black with no added extras like Milk or Soy, after all who really wants to become a Mangina  ::) ?

wait, but if your female is of breeding age.. You don't want her drinking that stuff because the (alleged) hormonal influence may affect offsprings..

The Vanilla is pretty sweet. If you try the original Silk (in the red carton) it is still sweet in an unoffensive way, and tastes much better than you might think. The Vanilla is good too...but I tried it thinking I would prefer flavored over the original variety, and I found the opposite to be true. We drink a lot of soy milk in our house (I have a toddler that demands it) so I've tried pretty much every variety out there. The Silk Original is my favorite. Silk also makes a really good dark chocolate almond milk, which I thought I would hate, but was pleasantly surprised.

I tried silk last year...  that texture... How did they do that... probably some sort of chemical emulsifier.... It's Awesome  for sure...   but... yea.. steer clear if health is a concern.
