Do you guys know from where to get even lighter switches, something like 30g ?
I have a 104ub and I actually don't have a problem with the variable switches. The build quality is great and I love the thing, I got it maybe 2 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. What's your favorite thing about it?
It's my first venture into topre, so I'm not a an expert in all the varieties of boards with this switch, but I can say I was surprised at how much I liked it, really it exceeded my expectations.
If I know what I do now I would have made the switch to topre much, much sooner.
get a uniform realforce over a variable

Variable is fine, and IMO preferred, if you're not gaming. Playing Quake Live every other week is not a compelling factor for taking a uniform.
Man, I still can't get a damned consensus on which Topre to buy! Haha. I do game and type sometimes...

Think I mentioned this in your other thread, but if you like buckling spring and will be gaming, get the 55g. The feel, of course, will be completely different, but you'll probably prefer the heavier feel and snappier sound of the heavier Topre switches. If for some reason you don't like it, you could sell it here and pretty easily recoup most of your investment.
There's nothing wrong with Topre for gaming unless you're super hardcore.
Quality vs price is dissapointing.Well thats your opinion but most will think it is worth $200. My opinion is that dental band modding ruins the tactile feel and limits the key stroke, it is an unsuitable method of silencing a Topre switch IMO.
Feels like a $150 board in terms of quality, not $200+
I liked it a lot more after dental band modding.
I have both a 55g and a variably weighted 87u.
Will not comment on Topre vs MX.

Do you guys really feel a benefit from going to a TKL? I've always wondered if I'll be better off ergonomically and prevent my shoulder joints from further wear if I go TKL.

Definitely.
I don't really have any shoulder pain per say, but I do workout at the gym about 5 days per week and my joints don't need anything else wearing them out.Do you guys really feel a benefit from going to a TKL? um.. it helps... but.. if you have shoulder pains.. a split keyboard would help more.
you don't HAVE TO get an ergodox.. you can get one of those ghetto split keyboards..
I would say ANY split keyboard is better than ANY rectangle keyboard (ergonomically speaking of course)
I used my realforce for years at work and locked it up at night. I had to buy it myself, though, so when work finally got around to agreeing to replace the horrible Dell rubber thing with 10keyless Leopold with Cherry browns, I took my keyboard home, where it has supplanted my full key Filco, for the moment.Thank you so much for your valuable input to this thread. I may just check out the classifieds...
I absolutely benefit from TKL, the pain and ergo need drove a lot of this purchasing. I still get shoulder pain sometimes, so I guess I could go for split, but honestly, making sure I take a break every two hours, move, rotate, relax a little, stop using my muscles to sit up straight and rely on chair, can keep that from happening.
I still prefer the feel of cherry brown to Topre, but when it comes to water\quiet, I prefer Topre. I know, I could just get some landing pads, then probably care even less about my topre.
I do really like having my ctrl and caps switched on my Topre.
The only bad thing about TKL at work, is the stupid KVM switch I have, requires that part of the keyboard, at work, so I haven't been using my kvm yet.
Also gave my coworkers, who weren't touch typists, some relief, since the replacement had contrast lettering.
I bought mine 2nd hand years ago with variable weight. I haven't found it a problem. I'd probably get a 45 uniform, though, if I had to buy again. I think I'm heavy handed enough, when going fast there's no point dipping down to 30g, but I definitely don't want 55g.
I can't seem to keep my nails down, so typing is always noisy for me, unless it's a silicone jobby.

I also vote for 45g or 55g. Variable just feels weird and inconsistent.
Also like people said 45g and 55g are good for both gaming and typing, while variable sucks for gaming.
it doesn't exist AFAIK.Interesting! Learning about Topre feels to be a similar learning curve when I first got into mechanical keyboards a couple years ago.
i'm surprised no one noticed that earlier actually lol.
people sometimes salvage parts from a silent board and a uniform board and make a silenced uniform.
or they do something called a dental mod. that's just one way of silencing your board and i think there's at least one other.
basically, if you're not willing to mod (or pay someone to) and you need a silenced version, you MUST buy a variable silenced rf. but a normal board is generally quieter than regular domes to be honest (you need fast typing speed to really make any noticeable noise)
The bad news is that I can't get the 'silent' edition and have the all-45g switches everywhere. :(. Don't see such an option...
The RF 87U I use at home was lubed and also had thin silicone added between the top case and sliders.
Do you have a link or any info about the silicone you added? I haven't heard of that yet, but it sounds interesting. Does it dampen the upstroke clack?

It was not I who did the mod. Send a PM to exitfire401, as he's the one who did and from whom I purchased the keybaord. Yes, the silicone does dampen the upstroke noise, which to me is the most "annoying" thing about Topre (even though it really isn't).
While I love my 45g uniform, I don't like the black on charcoal keycaps, so I replaced them with the whites from my RF 87USW and a set of red RF ones I bought on eBay. I wouldn't change a thing about this, save for putting a yellow Esc/blank or any kind of CC/Bro cap in the Escape's place.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/iOEUbUo.jpg)
I've seen the red Topre caps on eBay, but before I saw your board, I couldn't imagine wanting to use red kecaps for anything but an Escape key. After seeing your board, I really like the red modifiers against the black case. Thanks for posting the pic!Do you have a link or any info about the silicone you added?
