Currently, I have a RF 87ub 55g and a black HHKB Pro 2. Eventually, I plan to get a HHKB Pro 2 Type-S and do a dome swap with the RF so that I will have a HHKB Pro 2 Type-S with 55g domes.
However, the Type-S HHKB Pro 2 is available only in white, and I would prefer to have a black case. Is it possible to do a "case swap" between a white Type-S and a standard black HHKB to yield a HHKB Pro 2 Type-S with a black case?
I have seen conflicting posts on this; one saying that he did this but there were no details, and another saying it was not possible because the switch housings are molded into the top of the case. I did not want to dismantle my HHKB to find out for myself until I was ready to do the dome transplant.
Thanks.

While it is true the switch housings are molded into the case top they are the same AFAIK. The difference is in the sliders between pro2 and type-s.

I'm fairly certain that bunny has a black type-s that he made by swapping the cases.

Seems like just a matter of switching the sliders and domes

The domes should be no problem. My main question is about the sliders and switch housings. Type-S and normal sliders are different, but are the switch housings different between a Type-S and normal HHKB?

Based on the schematic on their website, the foam pads that kill the noise seem to be attached to the sliders and not to the switch housing so you should be ok. All the difference is in the stems.
I would say you should still wait for someone who has opened their type S to verify. But unless they are lubing it... why would anyone open a type S?

I've put type-S sliders in a normal HHKB before and as far as I can remember there was no problem.

You should be able to swap them without a problem. My Pro II and Type-S are identical inside except for the sliders and pads.

Could sliders from a silent version of a Realforce board be used in a HHKB Pro 2?
