Title: Switch lubing tips?
Post by: wes1099 on Tue, 30 September 2014, 14:19:45
I want to lube some switches, but I have no idea what I need to get, or how to do it, but I figured someone here would know how. Any suggestions?

there's an entire thread on switch lubing  :thumb:

Also if you can be more specific as to which switches you want to lube we can better answer the question.

Lubing is unnecessary and DOESN'T last very long..

After the initial Fresh-novelty-feel... you'll just get lazy and never lube again..

It's like when someone buys a new car,  they wash it all the time for the first year,  then comes year 2, and they stop bothering..

I should probably look into doing this. After noticing the stock lube of the spacebar gradually fade off each time I take the caps off my board to clean it I'm reminded to try this.

Techkeys has the pre-mixed lube that mkawa made for us! The thread that spam showed is great for learning where to lube aswell! :)

Depending on location this has free shipping http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=61  (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=61)

of course you might want something else from techkeys to bump it up to get free shipping (>$24 i believe) from there as well

i know ctrlalt will be selling lube at some point but it will be shipping from the UK but will be priced even cheaper i think

I want to lube mx reds and mx whites (don't have the whites yet). Do you have any suggestions on what lube to get and where to get it? I would like to avoid anything expensive if possible. This is my 6th try at this post, they don't want to go through for some reason...

For the mx reds I would recommend the thin lube that is availible at the site spam suggested! I wouldn´t lube whites since the click on them is really inconsistent and lube will just make it even more inconsistent!

Just a heads up, you can always hit "Spy" in the bar to see if your thread went through before making a new thread. Spy shows the most recent posts/threads created on Geekhack.

A little out of topic but where does one get Victorinox Oil?

Also, I've lubed around 100+ switches (65 Ergo Clears and 65 Reds) I think what you really need is patience and a decent brush/needle. Mkawa's lube is very good and I just love the viscosity of the thick lube (for tactile switches) and a bit of thick mixed into thin lube for linear switches. Good luck!
