Hello, I was drawn to your community though the PC modding one - I am a budding case modder and hardware enthusiast.
I have very little experience with mech boards outside of trying out boards in-store at Maplin etc.
In addition - I am a very slow typist - I am only now just taking the time and effort to learn to touchtype, as I realise what I am missing out on, having being brought up in a education which put little value on keyboard skills.
My first purchase in the mechanical department will likely be a Poker II - since I am very interested in modding it for my own purposes - I will get it in brown switches with PBT caps, and add my own LEDs down the road (I have some soldering experience from my engineering class at GCSE), it helps that I have access to the engineering department at my college, which means CNC milling and laser cutting are a possibility for me :3 - I may CNC a custom case for my Poker, acrylic, wood or even aluminium billet are all options for me!
My interests outside of PC hardware include amateur astronomy, PC gaming - mostly first person RPGs and shooters, but I play a lot of roguelikes such as Cataclysm, Dwarf Fortress etc, in addition to space sims - my next purchase in this department will be Elite: Dangerous. I am a part of the brony fandom - as you might have guessed from my avatar and I am also interested in tabletop RPG campaigns.
Some of my favourite shows at the moment include Firefly, Stargate, Cowboy Bebop, Spice and Wolf, Attack on Titan and of course, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. (sigh)

Welcome!
I acquired a Poker II for it's modification ease as well. It seems like you have a lot of tools at your disposal to really make something great, so that is awesome! You will have to post you progress. I haven't typed on brown switches for a while now, I found them kind of boring, but they are great for quiet areas.
I too, must admit that I am a connoisseur of the ponies - I have two young kids that demand it. :) I have a nice Nightmare Moon escape key on my CODE, and the Mane Six Cutie Marks on my home cluster. We all went to see the new EG Movie last Saturday. It was a big hit.
Friendship is Magic! ;)

I thought this intro sounded familiar (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=63490.0) :))
