Need some wisdom from dell guys..
I'm still in love with my x220.. it's pretty decked out..
buh......
I'm thinking of upgrading..
What's ah... in the x220 spirit, from the Dell camp...
Did your X220 develop overheating issues?
Did your X220 develop overheating issues?
My laptop is squeaky clean.. the overheat issue only happens when the cooling chamber becomes dust-bound.
I'll admit the way the lenovo x2xx are designed, they tend to become plugged up quite easily due to the small air inlet @ the bottom.
But nothing a dis-assembly couldn't clear up.
I'm still using AS5 on the thing.
I also used Johnson Johnson baby oil to lubricate the fan bearing.. So my laptop smells awesome when it gets warm..Show Image(http://emoticoner.com/files/emoticons/onion-head/uhuhuh-onion-head-emoticon.gif?1292862523)

This is why so many of the other brands included a removable dust filter: so people could easily ensure their thermal module didn't become all clogged up with dust.
Baby oil does nothing for magnetic bearings that HP, dell, etc. use. Not that they were quality, but at least the fans were nice.
It's a shame that not many laptop manufacturers are interested in the business-class ultraportable anymore, with the advent of [useless] tablets.
I've shopped around and I still think the x220 is the last good example of the form factor.
I've been using an x230 since it came out and still love it as much as the day I bought it. The only problem I've ever had with it is the screen started to develop "bright spots" in some areas, but Lenovo promptly sent an IBM technician to my house to replace the screen. Is the x series lineup at Lenovo ultrabook only now?
I would get the x240.. but it's not really much of an upgrade from the x220...

Yeah a new trackpad, keyboard and a hardware refresh wouldn't do it for me either. For other ideas, the Japanese manufacturers (Sony, Toshiba, etc) seem to be keeping small laptops alive but those models might be difficult to get stateside and probably wouldn't be as solid/powerful as the X-series.I've been using an x230 since it came out and still love it as much as the day I bought it. Awesome customer service story! :) They have the X1 Carbon ultrabook but will hopefully keep the 12.5" model alive for at least a few more years.

nothing really happened from x220 and x240
I've opened up this thing several times.. They could definitely put more stuff in here LOL.. so much empty space..

not really, the HDD takes up a lot of space so they can keep it so thin. The wifi card area has a slot for an SSD, so that space is taken as well. Basically the only remaining space is for the battery under the screen or the upper left area for the fan/heatsink, and there's nothing you'd really want to put there.
The X2*0 series can run for absolute ages with that massive battery you caa get for it.
As far as the size, I like it. HP is going in that direction as well, and apple is already there with the MBPr13". I think a small-ish business-class computer is the way to go for sure.
Dell makes some decent comptuers, but I don't think you'll want any of them moving from the X220. That's why I recommend another company like HP instead.
