I think some of the favourites here would be this kind:  http://tigerimports.net/sunshop/images/products/large_14467_MKPuller_1_large.jpg

Simple and easy to use. They come shipped with some keyboards out there already and you can get a generic one for quite cheap.

If you want a fancier version of that you can try this: http://geekhack.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=38029.0;attach=12962;image

I heard that ring pullers are generally disliked because they risk scratching the side of the keycap. I personally prefer those ring pullers but recently Ive switched to the wire ones

The MKC puller is my favorite. Functionally it offers nothing over any other wire keycap puller, though.

For the price, the best keycap puller in existence. If you don't own it, get on my level.

is it large enough to pull off the space bar? seems like thats gotta be awkward, do people just take it off last with their hands.

That is my favorite, too.

I do the spacebar last, with my fingers, after I have removed the surrounding keys.

For zero cost, if you need it in 5 minutes, there is always this:

but the "store-bought" ones have thinner wires and that is much better

Yup, this thing.  A nice wooden one may be nice but eh.

Not a fan of the MKC Puller. It's got a short handle and overly head heavy IMO. Also mine ended up breaking at the brazed? end where the wire + turned SS connects after very light use (less than 5-10 keyset swaps). I also know another person's MKC Puller breaking at the brazed wire connection.

In general though, you can't go wrong with wire pullers.

I like the MKC metal one. It's got a good weight to it without being all fat and huge.

I find myself holding the wire puller instead of the plastic holder when pulling. Which is why it doesn't matter what the top part is made of.

hamblet keypuller is the best keypuller

just a note to say i've used this on most every mx keycap type on clear switches and even the tightest of caps came right off, it's like a keycap crowbar

I have a Filco one that I got years and years ago in Hong Kong; it's similar to the Leopold one that's been linked.

Always freaks me out a bit when i can't find it....maybe I need a backup!

To be honest, my favorite keycap puller is one that works without damaging the keycap, which are many.

It's only $3.99 from their own website and is shipped free...if you don't have a keypuller and want a cheap one I say go for it.

I did the same with my Filco wire puller :D The only time I hold the handle is when I'm handling the spacebar, using two wire pullers.

I dislike ring pullers - it gives me the feeling that I'm grinding down the sides of the keycap when I insert them in!

I've had one of these forever and it's still going strong.

The metal one I got from Massdrop crapped out after a couple weeks.

I really like the puller that comes with Poker 2 but I only use it for the larger keys. The plastic ring puller that used to come with Ducky boards seems the fastest to me so I use it for most keys.

Top: Good and free.
Middle: Looks nice, but in reality is uncomfortable to use and has no grip.
Bottom: Better, good grip, free and holds multiple keys.

I've been using my Filco puller forever. Works well, no complaints.

I have the one that came with my Poker II at work in case I need to use it for something. I like that one too because it's shaped like a key, but it's just a bit too small.

My MKC puller broke last week too.

My favorite is still a butter knife. I pull off keycaps a lot faster with the butter knife. The trick is to press the key directly below to give the knife more leverage while you "pry" the keycap off, which also stops you from torquing the stem too much.

I got the MKC from Massdrop and the build quality was ****, it broke after a couple of weeks, magically without saying a thing I received a new one in the mail that had great build quality. I think someone wasn't babysitting the factory enough. Maybe I should find the old one and take some comparison shots.
