Title: Should I pick up this Model M $30
Post by: inoxify on Thu, 09 October 2014, 19:53:15
Hey,

Think this is a good buy for $30? it is untested which kinda concerns me.. Also it doesn't look like the standard PS/2 connector.

That's a Terminal M, so you'll need to use a Teensy with Soarer's code to get it working on a modern computer.

For what it's worth I gambled on my M being untested and it worked out pretty well, if you're up for an adventure and don't mind converting it, it's probably not a bad deal.

It really is impossible to know for sure from eBay though, no telling if there's something spilled in it, etc.

It is from craigslist, so I have the chance to physically inspect it. I Guess i just wont be able to test it as it is the terminal version.   I will probably buy it as I need a new project anyway.

I like how the PCB is mounted on the terminal Ms better than the normal ones anyway.

It is bolted to the plate on the terminal instead of resting on the case. I plan to use my terminal M guts for some fun model M mods because I'll have to convert it anyway for hardware reprogramming and I like the mounting better.
