Title: New keycaps for Cherry G80-3000 keyboards
Post by: Cherry1990 on Sat, 11 October 2014, 12:22:26
I have a couple of ANSI layout original Cherry made G80-3000 keyboards with their original set of keycaps, PBT made with (unfortunately) laser etching legends. These legends, after few years, started to fade.

I have also another Cherry with double shot keycaps but they are so worn-out that they seem oily. For that reason I do not want ABS again.

My question is: are Leopold PBT sets, sold by widebasket, compatible with Cherry G80-3000 keyboards? The ABS set are not compatible.
Someone has tried them with Cherry G80-3000 keyboards?

Thank you! :)

P.S.: I am also waiting for another Granite set. Is this one compatible with Cherry G80-3000 keyboards?

If the G80s have winkey layouts, then both sets will be compatible. If winkeyless, the Leopold set will not work, but the Granite set will as long as you buy the Tsangan kit.

Edit: See Photekq's post below for additional info.

The caps lock will not work with any G80-3000, since it isn't stepped.

The spacebar probably won't work either, since Cherry's middle stem is off center. I haven't seen the bottom of the leopold spacebars though, so I don't know for sure.

Go for a PBT dyesubs set made by imsto. Those fit G80-3000 100% as they come with stepped caps lock and spacebar with the off centered switch stem. Or if they are older winkeyless you can get set made by BSP.

Thanks to all! ;)

Sorry, my keyboard is like this one:

http://www.cherry.de/cid/corded_keyboards_G80-3000.htm? (http://www.cherry.de/cid/corded_keyboards_G80-3000.htm?)

but ANSI instead German ISO.

The old ABS double shot doesn't have the Windows key (fortunately - never used...). The "new" (ten years old) has it.

imsto? Quite expensive to be made in China... I will check, thank you!
Any other suggestion? :-[
