Shift-Backspace   = Capslock

Looking for a critique and suggestions.

Strongly considering using the backspace key for something else but for the moment while I learn Colemak it is my most used key.

Predominant use cases are reading and writing English documents under windows.  I type a lot every day, touch type in the 80-90 wpm range.  (currently about 5 wpm under Colemak).

I have seen some minor optimizations on colemak

I will be using AHK & Poker 2 for mapping and Colemak is new and painful, so I have pretty much unlimited flexibility in picking layouts right now  ;D

Once I have my layout worked out I will build/have built a Tiramisu custom to suit that is properly programmable so that I do not have to copy binaries onto corporate machines and wireless for portability and presentations.

I may try a full width 40 i.e.

Thoughts?

Looks good and pretty similar to my layout!

I use ahk to trigger a capslock layer and an enter layer. Similar to space fn layer somewhere posted on here.

When holding down caps lock, I trigger the arrow keys and the number pad without triggering the caps lock itself.
Tapping the caps lock twice fairly quickly will then trigger the caps lock.
As for the number pad, my "0" is triggered with a space bar, my "." is triggered with the alt key, the backspace is triggered with the ";" key, and the remaining keys where my right pinky can reach, I placed the standard math operation symbols (+,-,/,*).

I'm not too sure what to do with the enter layer, but it triggers the arrow keys in the same position as the caps lock layer. I suppose I use the enter layer whenever my left pinky gets tired.

My goal is to access shortcuts without contorting my fingers in weird position and to keep my fingers on the home row key.

Good luck and keep us updated!

My experience is not with 60% keyboards, but with ErgoDox.

I'm not quite sure if poker will play nice with AHK yet.  In my imagination I use AHK to remap my base layer and the hardware Pn layer for 10 key and navigation, and fn for misc shortcuts.

In practice all mapping might have to be in AHK for me to use Colemak in my base layer.   Will have to do some reading on AHK and play w/ the poker when it arrives on the slow boat from china.

On your numpad, use spacebar for zero and right alt for period.

This is what I've been working with for a while:

Colemak (sorta) with some layout changes inspired by samwisekoi.
Pretty damn comfy.

Why would you assign one of the most common letters, D, to what is probably the hardest to reach key?

A better Colemak optimization would be (from base Colemak) to move :
D -> P,  P -> G,  G -> D

The funny part of learning a new layout is that it is effort for efforts sake.   I am unlikely to type any faster with one layout than another and the transition is right up there with having teeth pulled.

I am wondering why I have decided to poke myself in the eye with a stick 😀
