huh I was gonna get the blue version, about the same cost, for gift for family but this one has extra usb ports. How do the black switches compare to the blue? I know theres no tactile or clicky but how are they to type on, and can one still reliably learn to type without bottoming out on blacks?

I'm kind of a beginner myself and only have experience with the brown switches. This might help:

Just remember that something by Monoprice at this cost is going to be pretty low quality

Same spring weight, just linear instead of tactile. Although the blacks might feel a little heavier as the click in the blues helps the travel a bit.

Just remember that something by Monopole at this cost is going to be pretty low quality
I've ordered dozens of items from Monoprice, mostly cables, and have not had anything fail on me yet.

well, also realize there's a lot more that can go wrong with a keyboard than a cable, and many more ways to improve quality

And if there is a problem, I expect Monoprice to stand behind their product, which based on their overwhelmingly positive reviews, I have no doubt they will.
