Ah forgot about it. Supposed to be lighter than last gen. About 200lbs.
The new wrx's FA20DIT is one hell of an engine. Really torquey.

The cool part about the car is that you can set the engine up as a mid-engine RWD, which is what the kit does. I think it's be a pretty legit car for $15K ($10k kit and $5k car) and some work.
You can probably already find one that was imported to the states that are clean. And that compression ratio!Rb25 swap....

But I wanted the R32...
The web says imports are legal now that it's >25 years.. Now I just gotta go through some japanese people who know reputable tuners over there... I think I might just do a 30k car all tuning done over there, less diy on my end.. and then have that shipped..
My car guy tells me, the tuner shop in japan can modify the car so it passes for street legal, and undo those changes electronically once I get the sticker.. I didn't know this was possible..

30,000 yen? go for it.
My china guy who's looking for the japan guy just got back to me..
he says. the japan guy quoted 23k for 500hp, 30k for 700hp..
is that realistic on the 30? , I feel like for 700, you'd need a different engine and whole transmission rebuild, and that's only 7000 in JAPAN ?
this is before shipping

Those prices? For that amount of HP? Does he have a list of parts and some documentation for all the work? I am...skeptical. Even if that really is the case, I doubt the whole platform is going to be balanced. You may not care, though.

The guy said the 23ks are all ready to ship, the translation of what my china guy said was they have a mountain of 500hp skylines..
but If you want 700, which i mean, who wouldn't.. that's gonna be 30..
it's gonna be really hard to get all this stuff on paper unless I really commit to it.. since it's still kind of hassle-y to export single cars for these tuner shops.
If I had the buying power for a whole fleet that would be great.. LOL .

Wikipedia says the "RB26DETT" (2.6L twin turbo I6) engine the R32 GT-R had was designed for 500+ HP in race trim.
I would get some good photos and a listing of what he's done to it before buying and get it thoroughly checked before trying to turn it on.
I agree with sent that it might not be well-balanced. Like those miatas with corvette engines in them, but I care more for handling than raw power.

Do you plan to use it for drag racing?

Yeah, I've worked on enough RB's to have a decent knowledge of them. I suppose my point was more that...I've also seen enough deals like this go sideways to not trust what people say. Plus, depending on what they're using to dyno with and how badly they fudge the numbers, 500 hp may not actually be close to 500 hp. Race trim isn't really fun to drive around on the street, either. I ended up getting rid of my last few cars because they just turned into track ****s. :(

I hadn't considered balance at all.. I didn't think the parts to increase HP would alter it that much relative to the total weight.

It's not just the weight distribution that may be thrown off. Suspension, to me, is far more important than how much horsepower you're putting down. I've also seen 1000 hp builds that have a **** chassis and nuts and bolts actually vibrated out of the ****ing car when they're gunning it down a straight. Brakes? Also kind of important, especially when you're hunting for more and more power. Proper tires? They're a must. Tires can get expensive, really fast. The whole package has to be there as soon as you look for increased power. Honestly, the driving experience will be much more rewarding that way.
could you elaborate on what track ****s mean..
guess who's going to get annoyed with questions when i get my ST?
YOU ARE!
could you elaborate on what track ****s mean..
My car ended up being too uncomfortable to daily. It had a welded in roll cage, fixed bucket seat, etc. I was only putting down around 620 whp but daily driving that was toasting my tires far too fast. I also had quite a bit of aero which means getting into certain places was difficult and just unnecessarily stressful. When you mod a car to actually beat your own lap times, it's not so easy to drive on the streets, anymore.
