Title: Straighttalk
Post by: SpAmRaY on Wed, 15 October 2014, 14:38:10
Anyone have any personal experience using straighttalk cell service??

What's a good phone to go with it?

I'm tired of paying Verizon.  >:D

Not sure about staighttalk.

But I use t-mobiles pre-paid plan, its $30 for 100 minutes and unlimited data. The coverage is really good in my area.
You just provide your own phone.

I'm pretty sure there is a $45 plan with unlimited minutes, but I usually just text.

Might be worth checking out/comparing with straight talk.

It seems like T-Mo's coverage is great in CA, but it's absolutely abysmal up and down the east coast, from my experience. :(

I had enough of straight talk (dropped calls, no internet access even though 3G connected, no service in weird places) and moved to Verizon. Moved my number and clicked 'cancel service' on their site. Got billed two more cycles, called them, took forever to get sby on the phone. They finally told me that I did didn't stop them from billing me (even though I had no number or service). To do that I had to both cancel online and call and have my account stopped. Escalated, twice. Talked to a lawyer. Talked to them. They finally took the charges off.

Moral:  you're going to 'pay' one way or another.  Either out your wallet or up your ***.

Ouch, that sucks.

I don't mean to say that no one has problems with V.  For me, Verizon isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread but their service reps seem to be reasonable and their coverage is good.

Yeah I definitely like Verizon's coverage around here. Right now it costs me ~$150/month for 2 phones, that's only 1Gb of data between the two.

I'm on Straight talk's $45 all-you-can-eat plan with a Nexus 5. You can bring any unlocked GSM phone this way.

Pros:
Sims are cheap ($15 each), service is cheap, customer service is okay. BYOD is great if you change phones more than once every two years. Decent coverage with AT&T (never tried T-Mo). Autopay monthly electronic billing is nice.

Cons:
Configuring the APNs on smartphones is a massive pain in the ass. Prepare to spend about an hour searching the internet for the correct settings.

If you go At&t/Tmobile server through a mnvo straight talk/net10 you can use any phone from those providers you just pop your sim card in, and adjust some settings for Data and pic msgs. I was using a Note 2 on straight talk before I broke it.

i've been using straight talk for a couple years now without any issues, albeit just cheap phones and not smart phones. i have a few friends who use it as well with their iPhone, galaxy and droids-- they love it.

my iPhone 6 should be here this week, so i am switching up

$45.00 per month vs getting it in the toques with the other carriers

I switched from Verizon to Straight Talk and I've never looked back. I'm on East Coast. I went from $100+ a month to $32 a month.
