So... i see all the cool kids eat it..
I boiled it.. it's tastes fine, chewy, crunchy...
This is very time consuming to eat, if I have to chew all these little grits..
My question is.. Do you need to chew this.. or can you just swallow it like rice.. ??

pretty sure you're supposed to chew rice too :))
-
you meant quinoa?
Saw it several times in diet menu of friends' but never really try, but I guess it was kind of rice, wasn't it?
-
It's fiber rich so it's probably best to chew it for better digestion :blank:

ah... they're more like tiny beans.. the texture, is half way between crunchy and chewy..

but you don't Have to... trust me.. as a sifo, I would know this..
on quinoa.. i have no idea.

That stuff is weird. We tried to switch to it for a while. You have to strain in good first as well to clean it off. Pretty sure you should be chewing rice though lol. Also is sifo the new word for Asian around here?

Only need to chew rice if it's made really dry..

Here's how I do mine and it tastes really good:
1. Put 1 cup of quinoa and 2 cup of chicken broth (instead of water)
2. Make it boil
3. While it starts boiling, cut an onion in small pieces and 2-3 thing of garlic and add them to the quinoa (or do so before you put it on the fire, up to you)
4. Add a little bit of soya sauce and sesame oil
5. Once it boils, reduce the fire to low and let it stir for 15 min with a cover not completely closed. (watch 2-3 min before the end and remove from fire when there's no liquid).
Once cooked, just use a fork to mix it all (it will open then quinoa) and serve! It's a very nice dish in itself, but it's even better to accompany many foods like fish, chicken, etc.
Enjoy!
Edit: You eat it like rice obviously :p

I thought rice was only good for horchata

My wife makes it; boiled it's a lot like rice with a nuttier taste. Kindof meh if you ask me. But good for you.

unless tp4 ate rice as porridge, I have to agree with lightsout, that's weird..

Cost is about 4x that of rice.. pretty expensive for so few calories as a grain... i'm looking into this amino acids claim right now..

You should chew thoroughly. Everything you eat!
Digestion starts in the mouth in an alkaline environment, and then the acidic environment of the stomach does different things chemically.
re: Dorkvader's recipe: if you saute the onions and garlic briefly in oil/butter, then put the Quinoa in, dry, and stir it around for a minute of 2 before adding the liquid, it wakes up and enriches the nutty flavor of the Quinoa. This trick works for a lot of things, including rice.
-
the cheapest quinao I've seen AFK is costco bags, with the 9gram protein per serving kind @ ~$20 for 4lbs, so $5/lb,
there's the $100 25lb bag on amazon but it's only 5gram protein per serving..
hmmmm....
anyone seen budget quinoa newhere else.

I do it with a lot of things, just never had the idea to do it with Quinoa. Thx for the tip!
And I am not Dorkvader :p

Why are you mixing metric and imperial in the same sentence? ...

Yes, you are supposed to chew any solid food. Even rice. What the **** is even this topic?
PS Quinoa is overpriced bull****. You get almost the same benefits and amount of calories from eating barley. Quinoa is basically barley in the form of cous cous. They just want you to spend more money.

Sorry. I am an old man not wearing my reading glasses. I just saw a splash of colors that made me think of him without even looking closely.
Now I will have to look and compare!

I love Quinoa and I love saying it: Keen-waaa...keeeen waaa

I remember thinking this would be a problem when you joined. We both have big orange fractals as our avatar. I normally check my posts by looking at the avatars.
quinoa isn't bad, but I like wheatberries more.

His spiral goes the other way. That's how I do it.

So... today all day.. I've been eating quinoa..
testing for viability as replacement carbs vs rice/beans/wholewheatbread
So far so good.. no anomalies.. feel quite alert.. so, no suger crashes like rice and bread...
But I do get hungry quite fast.. must be due to the fiber moving the stuff through more quickly than rice/bread

Quinoa!
Love the stuff. I find it's easier to cook and get right than rice. If it's too crunchy, you may need more water.
I rinse mine first then bring to a boil with salt/oil, turn to lowish and simmer until desired consistency.
Then, I use it in place of rice and make quesadillas! Add some taco seasoning, corn and black beans and cheese. yum!
Or! I make fried "rice" - add fried rice seasoning, sautéed onions (preferably veggies) and egg.
or eat it cooled and tossed with seasonal veggies or a salad. Good stuff!

It's a skull ... not a spiral, not a fractal, just a skull with nice lines to make it look more stylish lol. You both need new glasses!

The stuff surrounding the skull is a computer rendered "flame fractal". You can see the recursion. I probable could have made one similar back when I was big into the electric sheep / apophysis scene in 2007-2009.
some info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal_flame
http://flam3.com/flame_draves.pdf (math paper on them)
my avatar I made in about 5 minutes before class as a demo to a friend on how easy it was. I liked the looks and especially related to how quick I was able to realize my artistic vision, so I kept it.
I have only lost data once, and when I did, it was all my artwork. It was pretty devastating. I only have 2 or 3 full resolution renders left (about 17 low resolution on my old photobucket) and all the original files / formulas that I can use to render more are lost. I will eventually remake them.

Nice to know. I have some very basic knowledge of fractals but didn't realise it was one used on top of the skull. I expected the one that made the image just used a tool in photoshop/whatever to add this effect. Well in fact there's probably some fractal thing in photoshop anyway.

nice

It's tasty if you know how to prepare it. Just boiled and alone gets boring soon. It can be mixed with rice, in soup or in a salad.
In Chile is a lot cheaper, 1 kg of organic processed quinoa costs around 10 USD.
-
I add wild onions and a little white vinegar to my boiled grains and they taste really good as a side.
Vinegar makes them slippery and hard to pick up with chopsticks, Not sure what utensiles you usually prefer.
-
Sautee/brown your previosly cooked quinoa w/red peppers, onions and a little bit of garlic.
Add a lamb chop and some beverage of preference.
As a side dish: throw in your quinoa and rice ideally to a rice cooker with small pieces of chopped celery to add a little bit of texture (you'd always aim to balance dull food w crunchy one, controlling the cooking method, time or ingredient. keeping in mind its function, you could also add another crunchy vegs.). When ready add a touch of freshly sliced parsley or coriander.
Eating healthy doesn't mean you gotta do it stoicly and quit eating tasty for ever. It takes some time and planning though.

Spoon, or in your case, a Rice Spoon. :)
