Hey all!
I've been a long time lurker here and deskthority and also on r/MK. Bought a Filco Majestouch-2 Ninja TKL MX Browns back in 2012. I'd been using membrane keyboards for 7 or so years but I always felt like I was missing out. In 2012 I finally realized that I had been looking for mechanical keyboards all along. I think this was possibly because I had used Model M's at college and never realized how fortunate I'd been!
Anyways, now I'm searching for a good Model F/M-SSK/M and a Topre keyboard with 55g. Unfortunately, my perfect keyboard is only a fantasy... a B/S Capacitive with DSA PBT caps (Granite anyone?!) TKL! We can all dream, can't we? ;)

Welcome to Geekhack! Your dream board sounds like a tall order! :))
A very popular topre board on this forum is the HHKB Pro 2, and many people buy a realforce 55g and transform the HHKB into a 55g menace! ;)

thanks!
I had no idea you could mod the topre switches... going to have to look into this.

Yeah, so the 55g topre is very popular, but only available in a few select boards. The most popular topre layout is probably the HHKB which comes with 45g domes. Some poeple will buy both boards, and transfer the 55g domes from the realforce into the hhkb, then resell the realforce with the 45g domes from the hhkb.. lots of options available! You can also get the hhkb Type S which has slightly different stems and is very quiet. And the new novatouch has cherry mx stems on a topre board, so that you have more keycap options available. Some enterprising people are switching the novatouch cherry-compatible stems over to the hhkb so that they can fit cherry caps on it!
If you have the money/incentive to do it, you can spend a lot of money just to transplant different parts of different boards into one amazing keyboard!

... so that'd be the ultimate hhkb2. 55g domes from RF, the purple stems from novatouch on the hhkb2. my poor wallet.

Yeah you could decide if you wanted purple cherry novatouch stems or Type S stems. Expensive but very nice! :thumb:

Welcome to Geekhack!
Buckling spring? Capacitive? Sounds like a Model F!
DSA? Not yet. However matt3o has been very busy (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=63851.0), so don't write off Granite on BS yet!
