Title: What do you guys do with your extra keycap sets?
Post by: Veridis on Wed, 22 October 2014, 12:01:13
We only *need* one set of keycaps per keyboard.
I just ordered my first keycap set (white side printed) and am already thinking about getting black blank keycaps >_<

How many extra keycap sets do you guys have lying around? Do you rotate them throughout the year?

When I hit the club, I make it rain keycaps. When the ladies ask me about my tips, I'm like GIRL, DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH THIS CC IS WORTH? Then I get an extra lap dance.

I have several keyboards, and dozens of keycap sets.

I do rotate them from time to time.

I also mix and match to make interesting combinations.

My keycaps are of different profiles and materials, so they give a different feel to the same keyboards when I swap around.

My extra sets get stuffed in a drawer.  The only solution is to buy more boards until you don't have any spare key sets lying around.

I have a bunch of sets, most like new and I'm using the same white/black set that I've been using for at least 2 years which are getting all shiny now. :))

And it looks real classy.   :thumb:

I keep mine in one of two boxes or an organizer.  I need to sell some sets...

I put them in these: http://www.keypop.net/product/keycap-display-case

when you use plastic baggies, there's always the chance that you lose one cap, but with the case, it's superobvious if you do.

For sets that aren't on a keyboard, they go in these (http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=access,cherrymxkeys&pid=us104_case).

It's not the best, but it's generally a better and more space-saving option than most. One day, I'll have my keycap storage design made and GB....one day.

Swim in them every morning before heading to the office.

Mine are in plastic bags in boxes or on boards and I rotate them now and then, although the Cherry Legend Replica set has been on my work board now for too long. Time for a change. I think Penumbra deserves some board time now.

I have collected over 40 sets. Many of these sets are unused, but I will never sell them because I know I will regret it eventually.

It's the same with keyboards. I have way too many boards with all kinds of switches and layouts because my preferences changed over time. While I have settled for TKL boards with MX blue switches for now, I'd like to have options and re-experience other switches in the future. I used to hate MX blue, but I now it's my favourite switch for typing.

Unless you desperately need the money I would advise you not to sell your extra sets  :thumb:

Personally I ended up selling them. I only keep one around because I might use it in the future and it would be hard to replace.

I really like those. I may have to get a couple...

Some are collectors, some are just looking for the next best thing.
I'd like a set of thick pbt colemak for a poker but will probably get a set of wasd abs customs and a set of blanks and call it a day.

I'm not entirely convinced that the colemak experiment is going to stick although I find the poker nicer than my old logitech dinovo

Okay, what are your best multi-set + singles storage options?

I'm not talking about those EK-sold single-set molds. Think big, think 3-4 full sets + 20 random ESCs and novelty keys.

What's the best way to store all these?

Oh ... I play, rotate, combine, ziplock bag, not gonna sell them, except I have an extra set.
Great post! I don't feel guilty I brought too many keycaps and not enough keyboards now ;D

When I get a new set I replace the old one and bury it in the closet with the others never to be seen again. And so goes the circle of life.

Get another board, however you stumble upon two really good boards and you can't choose, so you get both, but now you have got an extra board without caps, so you have got to buy a new set; so you get another set, however you stumble upon two really good sets and you can't choose, so you get both, but now you have got an extra set without a board to put them on, so you get another board, however ...

Hobby box + Amac boxes from the container store. This is Hoffs but I have the same thing at home. If you do a bit of searching,  there's a few threads on this topic.

I have several sets, half of them in those Keypop boxes. Most novelty keys are either in hobby boxes and the really nice ones are in an acrylic case from GasmaskKeycaps.
Which reminds me, I need more of those boxes with Dolch coming in.

Edit: I have 7-8 sets. Boxes, boards, bags and *****es.

Hey, nice caps!  :))  I copied CBA for this setup.  :-*  Works really well, but in addition to this I have two boxes full of keycaps as well.  And I kind of don't want to buy two more of these containers...   :-X :-\
