I just can't bring myself to buy a Ducky keyboard.
Because Ducky.
"Oh cool. What keyboard is that?"
"Um... it's a Ducky." :-[
I fully realize how silly it is to avoid an entire brand because of its name, but that still doesn't stop me from having some pretty strong negative feelings about it. It's an Asian thing, I get it. The products are great, I get it. And I'm not the type of person who needs every piece of hardware to be a hard-edged, heavy, flaming, hardcore chunk of manliness and testosterone or I might somehow lose face with my nerd friends. I just can't get past the Ducky. And that cutesy logo emblazoned on every board... YOU'RE NOT MAKING THIS EASY FOR ME, DUCKY.
I can't be the only one.
-
Dumbest reason ever.
At least they don't have a big logo visible or anything.
I mean who would want a keyboard that said CM STORM on it?

Because Apple.

I can't bring myself to buy porn from Bang Bros. Ew, it says bang bros and I only like hetero porn.

never bought Xbox , because it sounded like a porn station .

It is a funny thing really, the idea of 'brand' recognition. I mean at the end of the day the only reason I bought a ducky was it had clear switches.
Makes you wonder how many people really miss out on nice things because they are unfamiliar with the brand and/or just automatically get turned off to something due to its name.

Dat cute ass duck on the mini v1 spacebar, i want a ducky mini v1 just for that
-
I've avoided recent Ducky for several reasons:
- Still waiting on doubleshot backlit keycaps
- They discontinued making keyboards with Alps switches
- Newer boards have way too much bezel for my tastes
- MK is no longer importing boards with white case
- Orange LED's are no longer available (at least through MK)
-
bcs duck webwit :))

I'll never buy a Ducky because of what they've done with their options. They have made SO many keyboards, in different form factors, in all the switch types, with many different LED options. Basically, you go straight to them to get what YOU want. If somewhere down the line, you don't want it anymore, good luck trying to sell it.

Clearly more people than those that want "Ducky".
Who cares anyway, it is subjective. People will buy based on what they like.
Personally, as long as the keyboard didn't have a giant duck on it and was quality made and well built I wouldn't mind and since I myself have now had a bad experience with CM support, I'd choose a ducky over a CM storm.
It is always subjective.

There's a reason why I like Filcos over Ducky or CM boards

The big golden filco logo?

Nope, if anything it makes me want one more. But I have a weird fascination with ducks. Also, I love the logo.

I don't buy Ducky because I tried them years ago and was dissatisfied with the quality. Maybe they're better now, but I don't tend to change my mind easily.
Names don't matter to me that much...I bought a Nopoo (worst name every, also not the greatest quality) and many Pokers (what does it have to do with keyboards? You're gambling on whether or not you'll like it?). I actually prefer non-branded stuff anyway. For example, most of my clothes don't have a visible logo on them. Just how I roll I guess.

I never understood Filco prices , can you enlighten me ?

Same here, except when it comes to PC parts, snowboarding, you know ... things that matter (haha ..what a joke).
Gotta love the stickers that come with your CPU/APU, etc. :)

I don't like their graphics, this "Ducky" emblem placed on the space bar is silly, but overall "morphology" of their boards is good and LCD options are interesting.
For instance: their newest aluminum Ducky Mini is looking much better than majority of today main-stream boards.
Basically: "Ducky" could be considered a put-off by those novices, who isn't familiar with established Ducky's reputation and quality of their boards and who is stumble over their rather childish name and graphics.

I just enjoy a solid keyboard, and as a result, there is a premium attached to it, partially due to it being a Japanese company.

We all know ducky gets all the cute girls. Then razer. Then corsair.
-
every time I see the 'Ducky' reference.. I'm reminded of NCIS show and the medical coroner. :))
-
Remember how ducky was this creepy old dude trying to hit on that ex fbi agent for 2 episodes in the backdoor pilot in jag.
-
the ducky name is a plus....
but ya, keyboards have names as well. such as 'shine' or 'hhkb'
-
Not really ? Although my friend dissed me cause I bought a board called ducky lol.
Then again he said my board feels better than his. :3

What if I told you.. that there is an enormous prostitution ring in asia, where you can sleep with girls that look Exactly like that for only 400rmb / hour.. ~$65 USD
price of a QFR

You're right. But, in this world, the ability to resell items allows for a great deal of discovery. If you really, REALLY wanted to try a new keyboard, but it cost a lot of money, what is the likelihood of you buying it knowing the possibility of you not liking it is present and you would be out of that money completely if that happens to be the case? Now, what if we replace you being out of that money with the possibility of recouping most or all of it? You now are allowed to try something without a complete loss on your part. It is this allowance that has helped so many people in this community. But Ducky destroys that with their business model of providing so many options. If you buy something from them, you're more likely to be stuck with it because probability that someone wants that exact configuration is lower due to the options available directly from the manufacturer.
source: firsthand experience trying to sell a Ducky keyboard, and taking a major loss on it, even in a brand new, unused condition.
So they make everything that people could want, and you knock on them because you want to be able to try and buy as much as you want. Man, that's selfish.
-
I'm not put off the brand, just the keyboards
I wish my DS3 felt more solid than my QFR, not barely as solid.
I do like the pretty lights, though
-
Yeah, those photos don't do anything for me.
Sheesh
Then quit throwing a fit over the name

A Ducky Shine was my first modern mechanical keyboard. It is still going strong.
I thought the name was a bit silly at first, but it's just a name after all.
Then I found out about Noppoo keyboards, and for a long time I thought they were "no poo" keyboards. Then I saw the second "p". But I still call them "no poo" keyboards.
Don't lookup what Filco stands for - might put you off those too :))
Nothing beats a good old Model M. Except maybe a Model F, according to some people.
-
You could call it by its model name. Saying you have a "Shine 3" sounds pretty cool imo
-

Buy our products? No ****!

They might be poo. qtan is disgusted with both Noppoo and Keycool.

PLU was my favorite of the mainland Chinese brands.

Not sure if I agree. Sold a ducky premier, got basically what I paid for it.
I think you get a ducky because you know exactly what you want. I bought cheaper MX boards, realized the form factor, switch, and keycap type i prefer, and got a ducky with them.
As for the name, I love it. I think it's a real cool name for a brand. I love their logo, too.
-
I like the name, but don't like the ducky keycaps (the ones that replace the windows keycaps) and the logos on the board.
-
Nope not me.
However, the ducky logo on the windows key for it's keycap sets turns many people including me off.
-
Ducky sounds the same as Eagle, Falcon, or Phoenix for me. A easy-to-remember name. Probably because I'm from a non-English-speaking world.
Ducky keyboard with blue switches is my favorite because I found it the best keyboard to practice non-bottoming- out typing.
-
For mech keyboard users, typing feel is the utmost importance.
If Ducky keyboards can be as good as Filco keyboards, I would be happy to buy a few of them.
-
A little bit for the name, a lot because of those ducky symbol keys.
-
They might be poo. qtan is disgusted with both Noppoo and Keycool.
Can I hear the story why??
