Title: NIB AT keyboards with Arabic legends, $25 shipped each (edit: now $50 shipped)
Post by: jacobolus on Thu, 23 October 2014, 15:48:20
I’ve seen very similar keyboards with MX, white Alps, SMK, Futaba switches.  No idea what these are, but the price isn’t bad if someone wants to take a chance. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271643935336

Edit: after 2 of these sold, the seller doubled the price. Not such a great deal anymore, but someone might still want one at that price.

looks like they're made by dah-yeng (unitek) Here is a picture of sandy's version of these (with cherry MX). Sandy has the older K151 and these are K251 so no idea what it'll be.

Paycheque came in so I'll give it a shot. hopefully it's MX or ALPS

FCC ID is DKW67MK-256 which was granted to Dah Yang  on 04/26/1990

edit: was not able to find references online to the K251 at all.

I did every kind of search last night when I stumbled across it, but found nothing.  They look like the Arabic legends are probably pad printed though.

And did the price go up?  I could swear they were cheaper earlier.

Price just doubled. Not nearly as good a deal anymore, but someone might still want one.

Gotta be fast.

First rule in KBs is patience. Second rule is: when you see a good deal, get on it ASAP!

Looks like someone else got in at the $25 shipped mark. I just hope it's not domes. I'll let everyone know when it arrives.

Seem to have updated the listing with the word "Mechanical" and a verifying photo in the list.

Strange... It looks like PCB mount switches but with a faux-plate?

Looks like thin pad printed or laser etched caps like I suspected.  That and MX Blues and I don't feel bad at all about not grabbing one when I first saw it.  At least you'll be able to recoup your costs if you spent the $25 on it by salvaging and selling the switches.

These MX switches are “vintage”, right? So ideally the top housing should be noticeably smoother / lower friction than the top housing from more recent MX switches. In particular, someone with “modern” MX red or black switches might appreciate swapping their springs and sliders into these vintage housings, to get a smoother feel.

Dah Yang doesn't always have the best build quality, but this model looks like it might be OK. Keycaps are probably only lasered, but their lasering is nice and not rough like some. Since it's an old AT board, they probably do have the 'vintage' blues. They have the large Cherry logo on the housing top and the right shade of blue stem.
Its the bottom of the switch, and the stems and springs that have the effect on feel. The stem slider doesn't come into contact with the tops, so they don't really matter.

These were are great deal at $25... now at $50 they are only an OK deal.

It is a piece of cardboard. They are really PCB mount. They have the old style PCB mount stabs that don't feel mushy though.

I hate Blues...but I love the Blues that came on my Dolch.  I'm not sure new vintage Blues will feel or sound as good as used vintage Blues.  I'm still of the mindset that it's predominantly broken in switches, not some mystical property.

Yeah dolch blues are like whites but more consistent (pretty sure it's due to heavy use). We'll see how these are like. Should be here Tuesday.

I might wire it up as backlit. Who knows!

This was supposed to be here tuesday, but since they are tearing a 20-foot deep hole in the road, I no-longer receive mail. My mailbox has been removed to make room for the excavations. I bet the post office guy was like: LOLNOPE on his way past.

So anyway, after a visit to the post office to have a chat with them about this, I will be picking up all my mail there. Perhaps it'll be one of the things.

They are installing a sewer.

So the only tracking update I have (picked up by USPS) was 11 days ago. Since its in providence, RI (a short drive from here) I'm guessing it's got lost by the mail.

Pretty sad but that's life. I'll contact the seller in another 2 weeks or so.
