Title: Budget mx brown keyboard
Post by: neverused on Sun, 26 October 2014, 12:28:27
Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a good ten-key keyboard with mx brown switches? My budget isn't large, perhaps around $100 but backlighting would be great and worth extra.

Thanks for your help!

If you want backlighting you could go with the ducky zero shine http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=898 (http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=898) but if you want to save about $30 and don't need backlighting, the cm storm quickfire rapid would work too

If you can forgo backlighting, the Quickfire Rapid can be had for ~$90 on Amazon at the moment.  http://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B0068INSUM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414344602&sr=8-1&keywords=qfr-i (http://www.amazon.com/Storm-QuickFire-Rapid-Tenkeyless-Mechanical/dp/B0068INSUM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414344602&sr=8-1&keywords=qfr-i)

If you're really set on backlighting though, I would recommend this..but it's slightly over your budget.

Thank you for the quick replies, are there any suggestions for keyboards with the ten-key keypad?

For full size backlit boards, Ducky Shine series is still a good pick, as is Max Keyboards Nighthawk series.

If you want a cheaper option, you could look at some of the full-size Cooler Master boards.

If you don't mind the magstipe reader... Cherry G80-8200HPBUS (http://www.ebay.com/itm/CHERRY-G80-8200HPBUS-2-PS2-POS-KEYBOARD-BLACK-/230993460290?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item35c8487c42) are a great deal. Has best doubleshot keycap that is worth more than backlighting any time.

Ducky Shine Zero.

CMStorm Quickfire XT.

Both full size, Shine Zero has backlighting Quickfire XT doesn't. They're both very good value for money and have completely standard layout, so any keycap sets will fit.

CM Storm Quickfire TK has a numpad in a TKL form factor and is fully back lit. The back light color correspond with the switch type except for brown = white LED.

they should be around $80-90 on Amazon I think.

The only downside of this keyboard is that if you're into modding your key caps, the TK has a nonstandard bottom row so you might have trouble finding the right key cap for it.
