Title: meaningful pictures
Post by: fohat.digs on Fri, 07 November 2014, 19:01:09
As far as I can discern, the "attachment" function in this forum has become completely dysfunctional.

That is extremely disappointing.

Meh.  Every board I frequent I always host images elsewhere, to keep the load (traffic and storage) on the board as low as possible.

I always resize my photos to 500K or considerably less, and don't post that many. I have maybe 3 or 4 guides with a couple of dozen photos each.

There should be a simple convenient method.

It doesn't get much easier than uploading an image to imgur.com, copying the image url and pasting the BB code into the forum post. You wont need to worry
about image size, either. If its way too big, imgur will bump it down (unless you have a paid account). And you dont need an account on imgur to upload anything.

(without the spaces, of course)

PS - The 'insert image' icon above when creating a post will make that code for you, you just drop in the image URL and GG.

My rule of thumb is always to avoid posting meaningful pictures to GH as attachments.  Remember when everything was lost from rootworm?  That's a thing that can happen.

imgur is great, but they can and will delete your images after some time, so I use that for quick things I want to post that aren't so important.

Everything truly important is uploaded to flickr.  It's free and gives you a terabyte I think (way more space than most people will need), and they'll back up the data so the chances of losing it all is very slim.
