I just finished restoring and bolt modding my two full-size Model Ms! It was quite a bit of fun and very rewarding!
Here's an album of the full process if anyone's interested!

Congratulations on a successful restoration, even if there were a couple of hiccups.
Deep joy to see such care and attention for so old keyboards. Sometimes I wonder if 20 years from now people will be exercising the same attention to old QFR or Filcos.

Thank you! :D
I can just see it now: "Just scored this ancient QFR at Goodwill for $5.00! Any tips on cleaning it up?"

I wonder how the MX switches would last ... the buckling springs don't seem to be causing many problems at all for people. I've seen pictures of one or two where the springs had rusted and broken, but that's about it.

That's a good question. The vintage MX boards that people find seem to be in good working order for the most part. I can't imagine they'd be as easy to clean and repair as a BS board if the condition is really bad though. I'm always amazed by how well old IBM boards clean up.
