Title: Special Ordering from EliteKeyboards
Post by: joniho on Thu, 16 July 2009, 14:55:31
In case it wasn't already mentioned, I thought I'd let you in on knowing that you can special order Diatec goods from EliteKeyboards, even if not listed on EliteKeyboards.com

According to Brian in Sales at EliteKeyboards, they make two special order shipments a month, and by contacting them either through email or telephone you can place an order. At least for the keyboards, the prices are the same ($115), and they don't charge extra for the special order!

I was told they can order "most" items from Diatec, in other words from http://www.diatec.co.jp/shop/index.php (http://www.diatec.co.jp/shop/index.php).

In case you're wondering, I'm deciding between the FKBN91M/JB and the FKBN91M/NB, which are Tenkeyless Brown MX Cherry keyboards with the Japanese layout. (Speaking of which, besides the Kana lettering, does anyone know if the upper left keys have different functions? On the NB it says E/J which I assume switches between English/Japanese in the IME, and on the other it says 半角 and 全角 which is half/full width; is this correct, and are the other function keys different?)

From what I understand those were from a limited run of the SE1700 model. However I have no idea how EliteKeyboards is getting the "Otaku" boards, which aren't listed on Diatec.

EDIT: It also seems that other FILCO keyboards including the Majestouch Series had red ESC keys for a while. If I had known about this (and Cherry switches) earlier I would've gotten a lovely Brown MX Cherry board with a red ESC key. :'(

Interesting - wonder what the biz model is there.

I know a lot of successful retailers that will actually Google alternative places for you to shop from if they don't carry certain inventory in stock. I think the "make as much money as possible and f*ck the customer" is an old and dying business model. I think customers are understanding that service is what sets some companies apart from others...not the unbeatably low prices. That said, I have a lot of friends and family that don't shop at Walmart. They have great prices...but there's nothing to corral the mob of retards.
