Having tried various keyboards, I've decided that the Cherry G80-3000 is my keyboard of choice. My main complaint is with the weight of the MX Green switch under the space-bar, and I'd like to switch it for an MX Blue to match all the other keys.
The thing that I'm wondering about is why do they put a heavier switch under the space bar? The spring makes it harder to press the key, there's no doubt about that. But the question is:
- Is it that the intended outcome is that the space-bar is harder to press for some reason?
or
- Is it that the extra weight of the space bar means that it needs a stronger spring to push it back up after a keystroke, and the fact it's harder to press is just a side-effect.
In other words, if the MX Green is swapped for an MX Blue, is there any chance that there will issues with the space-bar not returning, or issues with the speed at which it returns?
(or simply put - has anybody tried the swap and did it work out as expected?)

When pressing the space bar with their thumb, many typers apply significantly more force than when they press most other keys. This is perhaps because the thumb tends to be stronger than other fingers. The heavier spring is an attempt to compensate for this.

The Blue Cherry until the spacebar of my Filco works away nicely. I'm sure you could probably swap the green switch with a blue one from some useless key like Scroll lock or that idiotic 'context menu' key that MS threw into the keyboard design.

To answer your question, CX, no you won't have any problems swapping the switch internals. I did it with my old MX-11800. It took me about 5 minutes (I swapped it with Pause/Break), and it worked like a champ. The MX-11800 has browns, so it has even less resistance than the blues. If there was no problems with the browns, the blues shouldn't have any problems, either.

I swapped the alphanumeric keys for greens because I thought blues were too light to press.

On my Filco brown, there are times when loose clothing (more like jackets, rather than shirts) has pressed a key down - usually the space bar - when I'm leaning for various things. This is especially bad in my feed reader since space = Mark as Read. I'll be reading and all of a sudden ZOOOOOOOoooooooooommmm, a whole bunch of articles will be marked as read. -_-;
Other times it's Control, so clicking the mouse does unexpected things.
I don't have that problem with the blues, but I would still like to green up my blues one of these days. Just gotta get around to it.

Did you find a source of greens? I've been running circles with the NA distributors trying to get some. Or are you swapping springs on blues?

That was sort of my fallback plan. I figured it would be cheaper just to buy greens if they were available, rather then having to buy blacks and swap out.
I guess the next best bet is to see if there's a readily available source of springs equivalent to the blacks.
