Title: Unusual or custom Model M keycaps? Looking for sources.
Post by: ezrahilyer on Sat, 22 November 2014, 20:33:21
I am customizing the Function keys on my IBM Model M 122, and would like to find sources for some interesting keys. I know I can buy them from unicomp, but I was wondering if you knew of a good source for anything odd, or interesting.
Also were there any trading keyboards that were made with Model M keycaps? I am hoping to find caps with open order, buy, sell, GBP/USD
I am also looking for media control keys for the top row.

Well Unicomp is the only place you can actually buy custom keys, but the Wheelwriters had some interesting caps, or you could look for some other terminal M's or F's, they sometimes have some different caps. And Unicomp is the only place you'll find still making Model M's, but http://www.clickykeyboards.com/ also sells them

Isn't there that etsy store? I forget the link, but I remember it existing.

are you talking about the guy doing dye sublimation writing on Model M blanks? I did see what he was doing, but the quality seemed maybe a little low for what I was looking for.
there was also someone who was using a kind of coating that he would then use a laser etching machine to burn into the keycap.

I was hoping that somewhere I could find original keycaps from some financial terminal for currency pairs. I might have to look into making them myself.

Yeah, that guy. The financial terminal keys are SUPER rare. Only one I've seen is s'retspiR

I do odd things. Probably do a nipple keycap for the model M or some sculpted face/figurine.

How sad, I have so many of these. But all from Cherry MX boards.
