sometimes when writing a reply, i have to switch between tabs.
that means that sometimes the main textbox will lose focus and i will not realize.
when the textbox no longer has input, pressing backspace to delete a character now becomes backspace to go back one page in history.
normally (literally every modern website i've seen and most ancient ones) will pop up an alert box saying something like: "you have not finished entering data. please press ok to confirm that you want to leave this page and lose all current data"
i currently DO NOT get this. my question is: am i the only one that doesn't get a warning? is there a setting i need to enable?
this could be something on my end, but I want to know officially because this is the only site i use that doesn't have a warning.

Pretty much every time I switch tabs, like just then twice, the Quick Reply box retains focus.
Only on rare occasions where I scroll back the page I am replying on and click somewhere else does the textarea lose focus, and I am generally aware of that.
Which browser are you using? Which operating system? I use Chrome and Firefox on Windows and Mac, and Chromium on Linux - all work fine.

i'm talking about the acutal reply page mainly. not the quick reply. there's no technical issue with losing focus and there are a whole bunch of ways that can happen on my end. 'don't do it' doesn't apply in this case or to accidents in general.
i'm only wondering about my questions in the OP.

Wow! I almost never use the full reply (apart from when adding attachments)!
But I am typing this in the full reply box.
And I switched tabs a few times between this sentence and the previous one and even posted a reply to another thread in another tab, and this reply box did not lose focus.
Using Chrome on Windows.
Works for me :)

GH has quick reply?
quick reply as in you don't need to go to a separate webpage

"With Quick-Reply you can write a post when viewing a topic without loading a new page. You can still use bulletin board code and smileys as you would in a normal post."
I use it all the time :D
