I'm slightly tempted by this, but blank keycaps puts me off. Since the layout is different to what I'm used to, I feel like I'd need marked keycaps to be able to get used to things.
Also, not sure what you mean by 'rubber-band mod' ? If I was someone interested in trying a HHKB before buying, I'd probably prefer to try an unmodified one (to be a true representation of what I would get if I personally purchased one).
I'm sure others will take you up on your generous offer though :-) Very thoughtful.
Good thing you're doing mate! Thanks! :) I felt us Aussies got way too left out in the world of mech KBs.
Very nice of you to do such a thing...if only i qualified i wouldnt mind being the first person to take the keyboard from you when i go over.hope things turn out well.
I'm not an AUS resident, but GL with your tour! Tours are the best way to learn about new switches/keyboards.
Just to clarify, I too think its a great thing that you are doing. Just wanted to mention my reasons for opting-out :-)
Obviously I don't expect you to buy a set of marked keycaps etc just to make people like me happy ;)
Time for a double post! :D
2 People have been confirmed to be participating with address confirmed with me! :D
WOOHOO!seems like it's off to a good start....
Nice work Jersern, it's very good of you to do this. I think the HHKB in particular isn't that common in Aus (do any local shops even stock it?)
do any local shops even stock it?
Good luck with this Jersern! I got my new one recently. I'll show you later and you can give it a go without the bands too.
An excellent idea - about time we had a keyboard tour down here. And Jersern will have all his boards on tour all over australia! ;D
Although I already have and enjoy using an HHKB (albeit not silenced).
If this gets off the ground (seems likely) then once the first tour is finished, the word will get around and people will start asking when the next one is.
And it will probably just grow from there1

It's on the back of the keyboard. :)
That's nice of you to do such a tour, even though I won't be able to take part in it.Do it :thumb:
When I'll have something interesting to tour, I'll try to do one in Europe!
This is so cool.I don't have anything special for now, only 60% w/ MX Blues and Full w/ MX Brown. Most people won't be interested in trying that. Especially when you target active members. That's nice of you to do such a tour, even though I won't be able to take part in it.Do it :thumb:

This is a great opportunity for the Australians friends to try this niche keyboard. Kudos for the OP.

Yeah that could be something to try. I'm going to buy a Novatouch soon so if I like Topre I'll get an HHKB or a Leopold. If I do so I might tour my Poker II. I'll have to make an interest check to see if people would be interested for it.This is a great opportunity for the Australians friends to try this niche keyboard. Kudos for the OP.
Thanks! :) It's way too expensive to get one here and I haven't seen anywhere stock these here so you have to buy these blind :(That's nice of you to do such a tour, even though I won't be able to take part in it.

You should run one once you get something cool :thumb: interesting to see how many people haven't tried a 60%...
yeah!thanks for that....
really envious of your collection....you should put them in a display cabinet....enjoy your trip man....
but it's supposed to be in a humidity and temperature controlled glass case with a laser alarm thingy and requires a retina scan and voice confirmation to unarm..... :D

Don't worry, it is :p
In the mean time I will type away on my Ducky Shine 3............... such an inferior typing experience... oh and mess about on the mouse CM sent my way for free :D Also need to work out some sort of customisation for it......... :Ddont say that about the ducky....i'm planning to get the DS3 tkl when i get back.....and only if the filco is more expensive.....
If only my Model M was up and running and not sitting in pieces awaiting parts... :'( Luckily my replacement bits are going to arrive by the time I get back. Perfect timing really! And a new pair of headphones too! :D
Oh and I will bring my laptop with me but if there's no WiFi or LAN :'( well I can live after all I survived 6 months with no internet in the mountains! :D
Well it controls the keyboard sooo................... :)) The custom one let's you do custom keymapping so custom function layer and custom layout.
I hope everyone is well and enjoying their holidays! :) I am alive!!!! :p Unfortunately the great firewall blocked all Google services. How frustrating! Hope everything is well with my HHKB.

Your HHKB looks the same as the day I picked it up! ;D
Loving the feel of it at the moment and really want to compare your HHKB to a non dental banded one (one switch just isn't enough for me :p) so at the moment I'm figuring out the cheapest way I could get a HHKB. And it's all because of you :'(
Now go enjoy your time in China
Hello everyone,
The tour has concluded and my HHKB has survived (hopefully). Still haven't plugged it in................................................. Thanks to those who participated. I hope to see more keyboard tours being conducted in Australia (or at least let us participate!). If anyone still wants to try my HHKB just send me a PM and we can arrange things.
Have a nice day! :)

I knew I forgot something! I'll try and write up my thoughts on topre tonight and post it sometime tomorrow morning. My own HHKB just arrived last Friday :D

IMO topre switches is one of my favorite switch (my 2nd favorite being 68g clears). I'll expand why on my later post when I review the various topre switches I've tried (stock, lubed only, lubed + dental band mod) in this thread.
nice write up moralles....i have to admit, while I was over in sydney in december last year I tried out Jersern's hhkb in person, and it has left quite an impression on me... I like the smoothness of the topre switch.
the only thing stopping me from getting one is the local price...but since i'm going to tokyo in a few weeks, i'm very tempted to purchase one....
with regards to the sound, does the stock hhkb sound something like an mx switch with pbt caps? cos if it is, then i'm definitely in for one.....

I have personally never used PBT keycaps on cherry mx keys so I don't know what to tell you there but I personally find the topre thock a lot more satisfying to hear then any of the cherry mx keys(which are mostly based off youtube videos).
Also my mate went over to Japan for new years and he went to akihabara in Tokyo and said he saw a few HHKBs for sale there for only around 200,000 yen (roughly $200 AUD) which is insanely cheap since if you're planning to buy one from online then you're looking at a minimum of ~$260 aud to get one. So I would highly recommend getting one while you're over there. Besides even if you end up realizing you don't like your HHKB you could probably sell it for more than you bought it here in Australia since you would've gotten it for so cheap.

I haven't tried Topre already but I'm waiting on my Novatouch to arrive. I'm typing this on a Poker II w/ Black and PBT caps. When I bottom out the sound of the PBT caps reminds me of the videos of the "thock" Topre sound that I saw. I'll be able to tell you more once I'll try Topre.

Well, from my personal experience, PBT caps give a nicer, deeper and generally more satisfying sound on bottoming out compared to ABS caps.
With regards to price, with the current rates, I'm looking at half the price to buy it over there than if I were to buy it locally. I do think I'd like it though... I blame Jersern for this. He's been pestering me to get a HHKB for a few months now...lol....and with the prices i'm looking at....from Yodobashi Camera's online store, it seem very reasonable.
they are crazy good prices and the reason why i'm scared for my wallet and bank account while i'm in tokyo.nice write up moralles....i have to admit, while I was over in sydney in december last year I tried out Jersern's hhkb in person, and it has left quite an impression on me... I blame Jersern for my HHKB as well but forgive him since it's awesome :)) do you live near him aswell?

i live about 8 hours away...in singapore...lol
i was on holiday in sydney at that time and since the tour wasn't officially commenced I asked if i could pop on over to test a few of his keyboards and he was nice enough to let me visit....
he has a great selection of keyboards i must say. very envious of what he has....
when i get a chance, i'll try out the boards akihabara has to offer and i'll take lots of pics for you guys.
hoping that i'll love the stock HHKBs cos i really cannot afford to be spending money like i just won the lottery

I hope I'll get it soon as well! It has been shipped last friday so it should arrive this week or the next one as it comes from Germany. I'll have to put the PBT set I have on the Poker on the new board because my other PBT set is being shipped from Korea so it may take longer than the Novatouch to arrive.

exciting times.....if only the topre sets had more choices in terms of keycaps like the mx.....but if it comes stock with pbt, which i think the hhkb does..then i have no complaints
that looks nice!..somehow i am unable to find just the caps in that colour with a black body...
