anyone have any info on where to get one of these fixed? - fixed you say! - it's a keyboard, get another.
maybe but otherwise it's fine.
everything functions except the spacebar doesn't work - press it and it clicks as you expect, bounces back, but no luck.
anyone think it's likely to be too expensive to fix or .... ?
these things are rare here in the uk so i'd really like to make it work - my existing real model m has a few less than responsive keys - maybe I've actually made it to 50 million keypresses......

The stabilizer is probably not seated correctly. Take the spacebar off and make sure the little metal bar that's attached to it is seated properly into the plastic tabs that you'll find under the spacebar.

no luck im afraid.
tried a bit more experimenting - took the key off and used a tiny screwdriver to directly press the contact down through the spring - no dice.
tried the same with another key - worked.
so I guess the contact itself has somehow died.
ho hum.

Sorry, I admittedly didn't read your question very well. :-[ If it's actually clicking, then it probably is the contact that's bad. You could try replacing the entire key assembly, or it might be that there's a lot of broken rivets around the area of the spacebar. The fix for that is bolt-modding, of course.

You're certain everything works except the spacebar?
Have you tested the keyboard with this?: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=34670.0

Contact Unicomp. In my experience their customer service is excellent.

Bet the foot inside is cracked or suck. That's really all there is left at this point other than the membrane being bad which is unlikely.

Have this issue as well. Came back to my old apartment and tried to get on the computer there before packing up. Suddenly the space bar doesn't work anymore.
Thinking of cracking it open when I have time off for the holidays. I'll let you know if I do and if I find anything.

Get it warmed up (turn a light on or something like that) and see if it still works then.
My keyboard has keys that don't work under 10 C

Take the space bar off anyway, and reseat it. Sometimes it will click, but due to movement of the spring inside, the hammer underneath doesn't move properly so no real actuation of key.
