Title: 10th Anniversary 87U55 or Digilog Case for exisiting 87Us?
Post by: awts on Wed, 17 December 2014, 05:07:22
I'm loving my Topres and have the urge to acquire more and upgrade.

I'm wondering if I should add a 10th anniversary to my collection, or should I just get a Digilog aluminum case for either of my exisitng 87U?

Decisions, Decisions...  :-\

I was just about to write a post about how much I hate you for making me REALLY REALLY want a Digilog case, but because I don't have a RF87U, I'd have to buy one of those too....  :-[

Almost cracked and spent 450 dollars in one click (450 dollars that I need for non-keyboard expenses), but then I realized I don't even like TKLs...  whew...

I might be going crazy.

Don't think you're going crazy yet, cause I really am!  :'(

Right after I purchased the 10th anniversary, I can't help but bookmark the page for the Digilog case as well...

The temptation is there! Maybe you should get a Stock 87U board first and see if you'll want to upgrade from there.

My favourite is the 55g! The Digilog case is just so yummmmmyyyy!  :blank:

:p

I've gone through a couple Topre boards already and I have my second HHKB Type-S coming in the mail as we speak lol (the little voice in my head told me I needed one after selling the first one).

Widebasket listed a few more, along with Silent Variable models.

If it weren't so close to Christmas and my bank account having taken some serious hits as a result, that 55g 10th AE would already be on its way to my door  :p

Man! Just two days ago I was regretting not buying from Widebasket when he listed it a couple of months ago and said that if he has it for sale again, I'd get it. But now that I do have a chance, I'm having second thoughts again.

All the buying and acquiring!  :-\

I'm actually also looking at the HHKB PRO 2, but the layout is holding me back as, I use the regular left Ctrl for FPS games (couch in CS:GO).

Anyone plays FPS games fine with the HHKB? I'm just curious! :D

I'll also see if I can resist getting the Digilog case this week...  :'(

I played CS:GO on HHKB for a while and you simply adjust to then CTRL eventually, it really wasn't as cumbersome as I thought it would be. Mind you, I suck at CS, but don't let that hold you back from getting a HHKB!  :)

Guess the only reason I can make myself get the HHKB is because I work on the OSX platform and game in Windows 8.1  ^-^

It's going to be a challenging Christmas for me...

You'll probably end up with at least one of everything anyway :p

I FPS on HHKB on Mac with very few problems, mostly relating to different Ctrl location.  All my other PCs are Windows with TKL or full size boards.

You are hard core bro! But since you live in Singapore, isn't it better to buy from amazon.co.jp and proxy via tenso. It is actually much cheaper for us in south east asia to buy new from amazon.co.jp.

Thanks for the advice! Maybe I'll go work out how much it cost to proxy this keyboard from Amazon JP!

If all is right I might have all the Topre boards I ever need!

Tenso had 3000 yen off any shipping method sale that just ended. Handling fee was only 700 yen (I got my HHKB Type-S for 249USD)

Just received the 10th anniversary from the post man. Box came with a Leopold foil seal and think I won't be opening it up since I'm still using my week old 87UB55. Now waiting patiently for the Digilog case to upgrade my 87U variable with a broken USB cable...  ^-^

I don't know to call it a good day or not  :'(...

The Digilog case arrived today but my excitement was killed when I found a small little blemish on the lower part of the top case, and also one of the screws simply won't screw completely into the thread hole due to machining fault. I have since contacted the seller and hope they can send me a replacement top case along with some spare case screws...  :-\

I'll try to post if I can even get them to send me any replacements. So far no news from the seller and I'm hoping to get a response next week.

I have to admit I really like the case, but I'm not sure which of my 87U should go into it at the moment...

I want one of these soooo bad but I can't afford it at the moment so I will just have to make do with enjoying one vicariously through pictures.

On the bright side, my RF87U 55g Type-S is coming in tomorrow... so stoked!

With the Digilog case, now I have the heaviest Topre board ever!

Meh I think 45g is the perfect weight for the HHKB. I only got the 55g RF87u for variety and because I think that the plate is more suited for a heavier switch =p

I'll try and take some pictures of it this week and upload them. As for youtube videos, I don't think I have the proper equipment to properly capture the sound of the keystrokes. It sounded weird when I recorded using my cheap mobile phone...

I'll do my best given the time!  ;D

Pertaining their customer service, they don't respond immediately (the whole thing took about a month). EMS shipping is not particularly slow, but preparation for shipping can take awhile. They're also very generous with issuing parts, as they sent 3 of those USB connector boards (one did not work) and plenty of replacement screws. They didn't even ask for the damaged top case after sending out the replacement.  :thumb:

I'm back to using the HHKB for work. I must say the Digilog is only for permanent boards and not those who move about. Probably the heaviest board I will ever own or come across ever again...  :))

Widebasket listed a few more, along with Silent Variable models.

This post could cost me a terrible amount of money. Been hunting for a silenced 87u with no luck. Was planning on combining it with my 87u EK edition to make a silenced EK edition. Maybe this just means I have to get a 10AE edition....

For those of you who have an aluminum case for an 87U, does it change the typing feel? Just sticking rubber cabinet door bumpers on the bottom of a keyboard or placing it on a desk mat changes the feel. A case without give or flex must change it as well.

And how different is the sound?
