Title: Excited to be here!
Post by: erroneousdetails on Fri, 19 December 2014, 08:04:19
Recently having rediscovered the joys of mechanical keyboards, I just ordered a CM Storm rapid-i, and some pretty new caps. I CANT WAIT for it to arrive so that I can replace my uninspiring razor board. ^_^

In the meanwhile, I got absorbed watching you-tube and reading articles on building my own from scratch. Dear, dear...I think my wallet may be screwed.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Or Wallethack, as it is sometimes known ;)

Yes this can become an expensive hobby, but there are just so many nice keyboard things out there.

I noticed! I am a sucker for anything that lends itself to customization...I've already started plotting projects for modifications. I also want to make a custom board for my hubby at some point. He's a huge fan of batman and/or iron-man comics. I bet I could mod something into that theme at some point...:)

mostly though, i just can't wait for my board to arrive so that I can start clackin. I want the feels, man. The feels.

I too, am drawn to the customization factor. My Poker II is constantly being updated - the $$ I've spent! It is crazy. I've also painted out the case on my WASD CODE to be a nice deep purple, and have some white and pink caps on it. One day I'll learn to solder and really go all out.   :)

What switches did you get on the Rapid-i?

Welcome to the board, make sure to show us your first creation :)

I got blues. At first, I was hesitant to go blue, but I really like the feedback you get off of them. I should o-rings on them if i need to quiet them a smidge. I'm not to concerned though. The whole house uses sound cancelling headphones anyhow lol.

There have been quite a few Ironman-themed custom keycaps, including some made from solver and gold!

Here's just one (girldc is very talented): https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=34421.0
