I also thought of that board. I agree, that would be pretty much perfect. You are going to end up spending close to that much anyway and you get such an awesome board with that one that it is probably your best bet. That is a great option...
Edit: Looking at that board again, I think that is exactly what you want. I would recommend you buy that one...

argh wait - - i thought it was perfect until i saw there's no f keys... which is much more important than the numpad since in his games he has to press f1 - 4 lol... so the f row is essential...
Without going overboard, there aren't many "flashy" keyboards other than the sucky that would fit all your criteria, especially when you throw backlighting into the mix. Other than he Corsair RGB line... Which we choose not to talk about here.
Oh wow under $500! And f-row keys huh...

Yeah! I saw this and I really liked it but the thing is I heard that it weighs like 3kg? and also I didn't know what mushy + rattling stabs meant...
Is this a Christmas present, because otherwise I would just suggest doing something custom like a GON, that or you could find someone on the artisan section (such as myself, deffinetly not a shameless plug) that could modify any keyboard on the classifieds to MX red or brown.
Hmm, well, there is a lot going on here. Here is my input:
1. I understand that this is an anniversary present and not a Christmas present. What is our date that you must receive the keyboard by? Most likely you do not have time to get a Korean custom keyboard.
2. $500 is way, way, WAY too much to spend if you are a noob. You don't even know what you want or like, so please DO NOT SPEND $500 on your first mech keyboard.
^fair
I would also echo the sentiment that he probably wants a TKL (he may just not know that yet). :) I personally find a full size keyboard way too big when gaming because my mouse is a half mile away. I personally prefer a 75% board, but that is just me.
Sorry if this is oot, but may I ask who is your boyf since you're saying he's a professional dota 2 player ?
Just curious as I follow the scene a lot. Makes me wonder a lot :D

Well he's in Invictus Gaming, they haven't been doing great for the past few months but picking up pace recently ... Going to star ladder in January XD

Just FYI, you'll still need keycaps. Which may bring you close to $500 lol. But this is a really nice korean custom board that you don't see often for sale.
I'd recommend a Ducky Shine 3 with MX Browns or Reds. Personally I don't like linear switches like Reds and I think Browns are the best switches to get on a first mechanical board since it gives you a good reference point. Blues or Greens will give that click sound when they actuate, but they have somethimg called hysteresis which means the release point is much higher than the actuation point so you have to lift your finger practically to the top of the movement before pressing again if ypu want to double tap, which can be irritating when gaming. Reaction speed is better on Reds and Browns and Browns have a bump near the actuation point so you can find it easily.
The Shine 3 is fully backlit and has some nice lighting modes like the reactive ones which light up the you are pressing with a fade effect so you see a trail of where you've typed. Flashy, but fun.
Then find a nice keycap set that matches your theme. Keycaps are a whole other rabbit hole to go down and learn about. The 'best' are thicker, heavier caps that add some nice feel to the press. Most of the high quality and custom coloured keycaps don't allow light to shine through the letters, though.

Also, it's interesting to see that he uses the F row as some of his keybinds...

ducky is really common in China and on Taobao :\ I don't want something that's easily obtainable ...
now i'm jumping in into that keycaps rabbit hole
GON makes some sweet stuff, pricey though if you let him build it. If you want to save some time and money you could just order all the parts (I'm sure GON or someone else could help you compile the parts) and have someone just build it for you.

What about the Cherry replica set? (http://techkeys.us/products/cherry-replica-set)
I love my set and it fits the clockwerk color scheme nicely.
It's not GMK, but it's still a good set... backlight compatible... and I say that as someone who loves GMK (I own 3 sets...) and hangs out with a bunch of dota pros...
Either way, that GMK klaxon GB should be coming up soon if this isn't your thing.GON makes some sweet stuff, pricey though if you let him build it. You realize that it would cost about the same if someone other than GON builds it, right?
His prices are roughly in line with everyone else's.

Yeah, I'm an idiot.
After even more investigation, I'm going with my final answer of June. Because google is hard when you can't go on liquidpedia and look at current team comps hah.
i do like the cherry replica but im looking for red..mm whats this gmk set that u said is coming up?

It's called "Klaxon" or "Red Alert"

This is the interest check for a GMK version, but you can get a signature plastics version in the classifieds.
Check out the rules for the classifieds here (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=56284.0).

You said you talked to GON, yeah?
Ask him, he's nice.
If you want LEDs and switches, you'll need diodes and resistors and things like that. Ask GON about which ones to get.

why aren't clicky boards good for gaming? I play minecraft on my model M's all the time.
And on the subject of keybinds: The numpad is a great place for hotkeys to go.
Playing minecraft is different to playing MOBAs/FPSs to a high level. Professional esports players need to have lightning fast reactions, and a lot of top tier players swear by linear switches, especially reds.Okay, but I play a lot of Star Wars battlefront (you can still get multiplayer over tunngle) and have had no issues with my M's. In fact I prefer them to my infinitely less tactile AT101W.

And why are the reds and blacks faster?
(I've never had any MX switches, so please bear with me. Only got two M's and the dell which has ALPS blacks)
Guys ... I'm stuck with this dilemma the whole day ... black or silver black or silver black or silver black or silver black or silver black or silverFor the case?

Black goes with any keyset, that's my vote!True, but then it could easily be mistaken for any stock plastic case by just looking at it. I vote silver. It will still look nice with different caps. :)
Dark silver maybe?
Dark silver maybe?
The hard coat color he offers is a dark grey that is very nice!

Nice. That is a pretty good looking option. Pretty much any set of caps will look good on it too.Dark silver maybe?

Mmmm they are starting to sell these caps in a Chinese QQ group for 185USD a set, worth buying or no?
Mmmm they are starting to sell these caps in a Chinese QQ group for 185USD a set, worth buying or no?Why are they so expensive? For that kit I don't think I've ever seen a GMK set higher than around $100
Mmmm they are starting to sell these caps in a Chinese QQ group for 185USD a set, worth buying or no?
I have never spent 185USD on a set of keycaps and I don't plan to. That seems very expensive. They do appear to be GMK though, so they are the best quality keycaps you can buy, so at least that is good.
As a comparison. Ivan ran a GMK Dolch GB and the (very similar) base set was 110USD. https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=58608.msg1338971#msg1338971
Keep in mind that GMK GBs do not come up very often, but I know that BunnyLake (https://ctrlalt.io/) is planning to run some GMK buys soon, so you may want to wait for that...
Thats my two cents anyway...
BunnyLake should have both of his GBs live by the end of the week, so I would recommend checking them when they are up to see if they are to your taste.Mmmm they are starting to sell these caps in a Chinese QQ group for 185USD a set, worth buying or no?

Yeah, I thought it was really expensive too.
Apparently this wasn't a group buy, some guy ordered 500 sets using his own money. He said it costed him 89EUROs per set and then there's a 20% tax for goods shipped into China and then the rest is profit for himself I guess.

the dolch set is so pretty <3 i wonder if anyone would sell theirs on classifieds... i'm also in love with a similar one with led windows on the f row ... but pretty sure i can't find those anywhere.
looking forward to see what bunnylake has to offer in his GB but i'm kind of weary about GBs since I heard they take ages (6months?) - -.
