Title: in search of another keyboard
Post by: PythoN on Thu, 25 December 2014, 21:04:23
I currently own a Das Proffesional quiet with mx reds, in the past I've owned a CM quickfire pro with browns that I ended up selling and a CM quickfire stealth with blues which has a malfunctioning P and backspace key. my budget is in the 100-150 range.

does anybody have suggestions for good boards that I can find in Toronto, or that I can order online without having to pay an arm and a leg for shipping? I'm open minded but would prefer browns/blues and perhaps a tenkeyless model to slap my WASD keycaps on. thanks!

Is there any place I can find one with free shipping? they're out of stock on amazon and on elitekeyboards.com it's like 30-40 dollars :/

If you're feeling adventurous I'd say go vintage and look for an AEK or something, but if you're not then what the others suggested would probably do fine.

+1 It may look like the thread has a bit of KUL ES-87 bias, but in truth they've just beaten me to it.
Dead solid board that has up-to-date features and very few gripes (that being ABS keycaps).

I went from Filco to KUL and I'm very pleased with my decision.

thanks for your suggestions, I'm sold on the fact that it's a good board, I just need to find a way to get one within my budget. it looks really nice though, the minimalistic design is exactly what I was looking for

I'd say it's well within your budget if you're in the US, with $130 + about $10 shipping (?) as was for me.

edit: read Toronto, feel dumb.

CptBadAss has a naked (capless) Leopold FC700R w/ Blues in the classifieds.  Then you can hop on ebay and buy a set of thick PBT's from widebasket in Korea.

That might run you around $150 total ..

Great recommendation :)

Having a great set of PBT with your board is the best value for $150.

edit: and from a great seller, too! You should know about the unusual spacing of the space bar on there though! Should work fine with Leopold caps, ofc lol.
CptBadAss is kind enough to include some Bluetack in there for you if you might need it in the future.

Yes the space bar stem is weird on the FC700R - but the ones off ebay are nice and thick.  1.5mm vs. 1.3mm (the original FC700R spec.)
