Title: NIB IBM Model M SSK, part number 1392934 and FRU 1396050, made in 1990

This brand new in original box IBM Model M Space Saving Keyboard (SSK) from 1990 was intended to work with IBM's Personal System/2 line that helped popularize the PS/2 keyboard/mouse standard.

I found a few of these last year (a lucky find!).  Like my Industrial full-size Model M I have opened up this one to show what a brand new Model M looks like inside.

The keyboard ID on the box matches the one on the keyboard label, though many Model M's had Ship or FRU (Field Replacement Unit) numbers (1396050 in this case) written on the box and model numbers (1392934) on the label affixed to the keyboard.

Some close-ups on the keys, not worn down by usage.

And the final group of photos - of the insides of this keyboard.

Another very nice acquisition :)

Gotta make you wonder how many like this are still sitting on warehouse shelves somewhere, forgotten amongst the dust and detritus of the emerging personal computer era.

I really like those beige keycap frames most! They look much better than the black ones in older SSK models (or newer too?).
