Title: Touched my AT-101W's 'x' keycap with a soldering iron...
Post by: wyatt8740 on Tue, 30 December 2014, 12:50:44
Well, don't ask how, but I managed to mess up the 'X' key on my AT-101W. It's still usable, but it's got a channel going down into it and generally looks like plastic that's been exposed to a 600° Fahrenheit (332° Celsius / 605° Kelvin)... almost like i accidentally burned it with a soldering iron.

What can/should I do? Is there somewhere I can get a replacement matching keycap (besides another AT101W, which I don't have)?

Pics?

Sounds like your only option is to harvest a cap from another board, or harvest an entire keyset from a donor board.

updated, now includes a pic.

just noticed how nice this camera is... more detail than I see with the naked eye. Wish my old one hadn't been stolen though.

I saw your username, btw.
I too have a lab in the basement.

I'll send you a replacement X key from my AT101 in exchange for your slightly disfigured one.

I only use mine on my server, which hasn't been in use in about 9 months.

I was expecting it to have a hole burnt clean through it lol...

That is cool. This forum is by far the most positive I've been on in years (mostly car forums). In a large number of PM's, trades, sales, and buys, I've only had one instance of douchery and it was pretty minor.

Nice to see such examples of goodwill. Looks like the spirit of the season is alive and well on GH!

This is generally how GH operates.

Every now and again things go downhill for a few days, but overall, especially with some of the very generous and helpful individuals, things get right back on track :)

Don't be such a ****.

Battle scars enhance your keyboard.

i'd rather have all the battle scars come from previous owners so I dont feel the responsibility for them.

Now if someone asks me what happened to the X key on my AT101W, I can say it was from the previous owner. :))

AMEN to that!  I'm still wondering what ever happened to that terminal board you were fixing too?  Did you ever get it going again?

Me??

I was actually talking to Wyatt.  I was wondering if he ever got that terminal keyboard going.  Sorry about that Rowdy.  I guess the quote thing can still be confusing.  I was agreeing with you, then I thought about the OP and wondered if they had fixed their keyboard.
