Title: Logitech G500

Looks pretty nice.  I really like the finish on it.  I don't know if it would make me switch from my MS, but I will certainly have to check it out when I see it at retail.

It looks somewhat less ridiculous than the G5, I'll give it that.

I wonder if it still has that gimmicky weights system. It actually would be a pretty good mouse if they sell it for cheap enough. That said, the MX518 is still on the go the last time I checked.

In terms of quality the MX518 is a lot better than the G5 (and cheaper too).

I'd rather go for an Asus re-branded MX518 such as

or the Japansese version

I dunno about the quality of the G500 but the off-centre sensor puts me off straight away.

Engadget posts stories on Logitec stuff all the time.  That's where I first heard of the Logicool alternate branding.

Logicool sounds pretty lame.  Logiwin would have been better.

Yeah, the MX518 was a great mouse. Still a great choice if you want a good mouse without spending a whole lot of money. I'd much rather a Steelseries instead of the overpriced high-end Logitech or Razer offerings.

Well the MX518 is definitely more popular to gamers than the G5 as the optical sensor is better quality than the laser sensor of the G5. Also the G5's off-centre sensor can feel a bit weird if you are not used to it.

The only thing I don't like about the MX518 is the wire, however I took a thin razer wire out of a diamondback 3g and replaced the standard MX518 wire with it.

Had so switch some of the wires around in the connector and re-solder them however I think the effort was worth it.

Yeah. I think the texture effects on some of the Logitech mice are pretty tacky, especially the G5. The MX518's one is cool enough, but I had more than one person ask me how I dented my mouse when they saw me use mine.

I still use my trusty ol' Microsoft Serial Mouse. I got no need to replace it since it still gets the job done.

This raises a good question. Before I bought my first mechanical, my $20 rubber dome from Best Buy was doing it's job fine.

QFT, those old ball mice are just a nightmare compared even with some of the cheaper Logitech offerings.

They did firmware updates for the G5 that improved it. It then tracked on a wider range of surfaces, including glass mouse mats.

too bad they ruined it by adding a third side button. there's nothing to use it for and it will probably only get in your way.

I love my MX518... though I would love it even more without the side buttons.

The adjustable resolution is all win... Precision for Photoshoppery, lower dpi for general work/surfing.
