Title: There's a Korean, Chinese, Rus., Fr. and En. threads. Time for a Welsh thread.
Post by: Photekq on Sun, 04 January 2015, 14:16:49
Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mad,
Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed.

Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.

Hen Gymru fynyddig, paradwys y bardd,
Pob dyffryn, pob clogwyn, i'm golwg sydd hardd;
Trwy deimlad gwladgarol, mor swynol yw si
Ei nentydd, afonydd, i mi.

Os treisiodd y gelyn fy ngwlad tan ei droed,
Mae hen iaith y Cymru mor fyw ag erioed,
Ni luddiwyd yr awen gan erchyll law brad,
Na thelyn berseiniol fy ngwlad.

How do Welsh people actually remember those names? I remember it said that the longest names in the UK are all Welsh and full of consonants.

It's funny that one of Europe's smallest and least influential countries has one of the world's most scary flags. It's up there with Saudi Arabia and Bhutan.

The names are like German, made up from smaller words, usually to describe the place or area, I'm sure the station describes a white chapel, and a well, or something (well a part of it does)near by place holders and the like.

Living on the Welsh boarder the only Welsh I know is Araf (Slow) and Wrecsam (Wrexham in English), t'is a silly language.

I wish there was a German thread where everyone competed to make longer words. But experience shows that Germans don't find that funny. (Actually I can't think of anything that makes a German laugh.)

Hmm.. "Lanfear" was a character in Wheel of Time. Maybe this is where Robert Jordan got it.
