We've seem some modern variations of those... For example, numberpad mice (http://likecool.com/Sanwa_Number_Pad_Mouse--Desktop--Gear.html), mousepads with calculator (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3455), whimsical (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23488) mice (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.7107) ... Unfortunately, the list goes on...

I guess if you know how to get people to find your product, novelty, even obvously unhelpful novelty, sells pretty well.
