Since I first saw the Atomic ~1 month ago, I knew that I wanted to build one.
So after a few days of thinking about it. I contacted Jack and set the ball rolling.
Anyway here is the final result:

Some may find the colours boring... but I prefer subtle over fancy!
This was my first time really doing any proper soldering. it mostly went without problem..
Apart from this little bit of wire causing a short:

Still getting used to typing on it, the bottom alpha row is the most confusing so far. Also the stabilisers for my 2u keys all seem to get jammed when I press on them. so that's something I need to figure out. (Right now I'm 2u stabless.. but it's working well enough)
You can find the full build pics here: http://imgur.com/a/3OcNf/
I had a lot of fun.. I want to make a case of some form for this. and after that.. I may look at doing something totally custom :)

Sorry for bumping my own post.. but it seemed to get un-noticed before and I think it may have just been unlucky timing :( (or maybe no-one cares about atomics :P)

Interesting. Why do you have those 2u keys surrounded by 1u keys? What is the layout?
-
No idea what the atomic is, but awesome job! Looks damn cool.

The layout I'm using is http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/layouts/bdc1562e83fb828090be1420cdb82675
I plan to make some tweaks, changing Delete to FN, and maybe a few other things.

It's a set of plates you can buy here http://ortholinearkeyboards.com/atomic-top-plate-semi-standard

The 2u keys are enter and shift. It makes sense now :)

I saw this when I was away from my computer so didn't get a chance to post! :))
This is a cool build, and I had just stumbled upon the Planck and Atomic earlier that day, so it was awesome to see this pop up immediately.
The board looks great. Any plans on making a case?

Interesting - straight columns. I bet that will take a bit of getting used to... That design looks strange as noted above but actually there's a lot of functionality on the right without adding much width and I could use it with your blank keycaps after just one look at the keymap (if I were used to ANSI :)))
Good work handwiring the matrix with bare wire with only one short too, looking forward to seeing what you come up with for a case :)

I do plan on making a case at some point but haven't spent much time thinking about it yet.
Probably get some acrylic cut.. or maybe two layers, one acrylic, one wood. Might look cool.

This is really cool. Just stumbled across it now. Thanks for sharing your matrix wiring :)

Thanks! :)
I'm in early stages of planning a new build.
I've been researching PICs as an alternative to a Teensy.

Looking forward to your new builds. Please post a build log when you finish up that board :).
