Title: Hello!
Post by: Chillylance on Thu, 08 January 2015, 19:11:13
Hi! I am a high school student from America. I've gotten interested in mechanical keyboards in the past few months. I bought my first one off Monoprice which has MX reds near Black Friday 2014, and I first started browsing /r/mechanicalkeyboards before I came here.

I haven't modded my board or tried any other switch types yet, besides rubber dome. I wish to get into clicky/tactile switches, especially something other than Cherry MX, such as complicated white ALPS. I am a gamer, but I don't really game as much as some of my friends do. Before keyboards, I was very into building computers, but now I'm obsessed with keyboards.

Welcome to GH!

Unless you have a part time job i'd suggest trying not looking around too much or else you're gonna want to shoot yourself in the foot from wanting all the epic boards we have around here.....

Welcome, and to reiterate what Evo_Spec said, be careful because mech keyboards are addicting.

That said be careful what you find here, some boards are so awesome you simply must have one.  Then they pile up....

Welcome to Geekhack!

MX blues would be the switch of choice, unless you find reds too soft in which case MX greens would be the way to go.

Or, if you want to go the Alps route, you'd probably be best to start looking for an older secondhand keyboard with the switches you want, as there are few, if any, new Alps keyboards around these days.
