Title: Why Jap Movies so Terribad ?
Post by: tp4tissue on Fri, 09 January 2015, 16:35:43
So they got plenty of --culture-- to draw from..

Clearly they're great writers and artists --anime--

They got pretty girls...

Yet... every Japanese movie I've ever seen is terrible... over 120 movies.

WTF----!!!

Studio Ghibli, Kurosawa... seriously, what films have you been watching? Have also heard good things about Hirokazu Koreeda's films I Wish and Like Father Like Son. Good films are out there.

For the most part.. I was bored by the Ghibli stuff..   I also thought the Kurosawa films were crummy...

I guess it depends what you like... Japanese films are my top choice for over the top gore violence, samurais or yakuzas. If it has all of those things in the same film, it's even better.

You have personal tastes. Doesn't make the films terribad by any stretch, they're near universally praised.

Plenty of classic horror/thriller that's available if that's more your thing.

Lots of B-roll horror and gore movies out there from the land of Nippon. I have a soft spot for them though.
Ichi The Killer, the Guinea Pig series, Tokyo Gore Police, Hellavator. Lot's of good stuff.

And I mean, The 7 Samurai is one of the greatest films ever made. You probably don't have the capacity to appreciate it though

Ok.. let's compare to something "I "  like..

Terminator 2...    Edge of seat.. thought provoking..

Time travel, causality, ethics of destruction, transcendence of man, by man's hands- the birth of a god,

vs

7 Samurai... Tp4 Falling asleep,  yes I acknowledge there's a wage gap..

It completely changed the way movies were shot. Even today they still use some of the same camera techniques Kurosawa pineered when filming Seven Samurai. Even if the movie itself puts you to sleep, you've got to at least concede the man was a technical master.

Note that tp4tissue only consumes fiction for the sex and the fight scenes, and basically doesn’t like anything that isn’t at the level of comic books or porn. So any work heavy on dialog, plot, character development, or intellectual stimulation of any kind is right out.

I didn’t call you stupid, only really shallow with a short attention span and awful taste.

Don’t change though tp4. This place wouldn’t be the same without you.

Is it that he's shallow, or has Tp4 gone so Deep as to emerge from the other side.. The journey through which he has realized that it is his own conscience that forms the pillar of Realities..

There is no more and no less.. There is Tp4-all...

Tp's taste in movies is suspect... let me recommend some Chinese movies that may be more to his liking.

智取威虎山
小八路

For added measure you should watch 西藏天空

For what it's worth, given tp4's obsession with women I'm surprised he doesnt like Japanese cinema more...

I can recall, off the top of my head, more than a few times where I've hooked up while or right after watching Japanese movies... at least twice after watching Ikiru alone and once after Battle Royale, which was kind of weird.

Then again, I suppose tp4's aversion to Japanese films might be because the ladies of the sex industry aren't the type to be into deep/thoughtful movies for the most part.

Ok.. let me clarify a few things..

First you shouldn't look down upon working girls,  in general they're every bit as thoughtful as anyone else..  However, considering their level of education, they can only express how they feel in narrow ways..

That does not mean their primary motivations / intentions  are any different or shallow..

It's a difference in method..

Secondly... Movies themselves are never particularly thoughtful..  It is the viewer that takes to the springboard and makes the dive.

Hooked up ?  please .. that is childish..

You know... I used the term "hooked up" because I know some GH members are underage and their parents would probably not appreciate us using graphic terms to describe our adult experiences but since you are so hung up on my use of a PG-13 term then here goes, a translation just for you, tp4:

"I ****** the **** out of a **** ton of  **** after watching Japanese flicks in the most unfathomably kinky, passionate, and animalistic ways."

No further comment.
