Title: Ibm KB-9930
Post by: InSanCen on Sat, 08 August 2009, 18:54:26
Ok, it's not buckling spring. It is, however, the best compromise I can make with my other half is she is going to use the desktop for longer than usual. She hates the Wang 724 with a rather surprising passion, and is only slightly less derogatory about my beloved Model M's (Which may be due to all the keys off of one currently occupying various kitchen-type plastic tubs while they are cleaned). I absolutely will not tolerate the horrible little Zippy laptop affair she fell in love with and bought. Can you say Trifle?

My huge problem with it, (Other than it's not a Model M), is that the F10 key is missing. As I am a rabid Overclocker, this is kinda Important to me.

I have noticed that it looks strikingly similar to the IBM SpacesaverII. I has the numpad (Obviously), and some shortcut keys as well as a Volume Control, but otherwise... well.

SO, after much rambling, my question is this.

Will the keys from a spacesaverII fit, and if so, where is the best place to get them in Europe (Preferably the UK).

Cheers all, I know the advice here will be good.

The first quote, in and of itself, is rather unfortunate.

This may help to answer the question.

I hear the Japanese ones give 'Good oneness with cup rubber'

This thread has taken an unusual direction...

I don't know. I like the hard action when I'm bashing away.

As long as that hard action comes with soft landing.  Bottoming out hurts.

well...

I can't believe i missed all those double entrende's...

I'm usually the one to make a seemingly innocent comment into something totally smutty. Must have been low on caffiene...

Anyway...

Cheers for  the pics. I'll just have to get her ladyship to compromise (By that I mean "It's my PC, and I'll type on whatever I godamn like"). She will learn to love the Wang... ;-)

The keyboard is the best "normal" keyboard I've used to date, and has a surprisingly solid press. The styling of the Spacesaver II (The ridges around the back of the board) had me thinking it might be the same. I just thought someone might have a board floating round as a junker/spare and feel like donating a relatively unused key...

As far as the Model  M rebuild goes, looks like I'll be offering up the spare keycaps to Forumites who need spares... I managed to kill one (Well, getting very damp in storage killed it). I've taken the cap's I need for my other M, the rest is going up for grabs. Swaps taken for a new SDL cable. AT or PS/2.
