Title: USB Device Malfunction and Google Chrome Problem
Post by: berserkfan on Sat, 10 January 2015, 09:56:27

Once again I have gotten my incompetent self into a bit of a spot.
I have been receiving lots of alerts like this. USB device malfunction.
But I can’t figure out what device has malfunctioned. And the ‘click here for assistance in solving this problem’ thing is totally unhelpful.
Any ideas?

Another problem that I have been getting, is Google Chrome telling me constantly that some page or other is ‘not responding’ and I must kill it. This is starting to get very irritating because it interferes with my work. The page in question can be any page – yahoo mail, google mail, nytimes, bbc news, geekhack.org, taobao proxy, etc. I’m at my wits end to solve this problem because of the disruptions it causes.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

I have had numerous USB hubs fail, both powered and unpowered ones, even "good" brands.

What operating system? If Windows, do you also hear the chime indicating a device disconnected? Do you have any devices plugged into a USB 3 port? If so, you might want to disable "link power management". This feature is causing trouble for lots of folks (including me, until I learned to disable USB 3 power management).

Here's just one example...

OK, none of the devices are USB3.

No disconnection either. As I pointed out, everything is working. So I don't understand why I am getting the notice that 'USB device malfunctioned'.

In the past I got that notice with certain unreliable adapters/ whenever the USB connection was loose. But that's not the case for this current problem.
