Title: R9 290x, GTX 970, or ???
Post by: Geroximo on Mon, 12 January 2015, 14:01:44
Hi,
GTA V is coming out on PC soon. Time to upgrade my GPU *fck yeah*  ;D
But with what?
Non-reference R9 290x?
High power consumption, much heat, but decent price/performance ratio and ... multi-resolution Eyefinity!  :thumb:
Or is it better to go with a Nvidia GTX 970 ?
Low power consumption, low heat, bit more expensive, Nvidia surround only with same-resolution monitors ...

I'm really not sure which card to buy ... can you help me?

Imho the ideal gaming setup "today"   would be  2x 980 + Asus swift monitor for that sweet 120hz ULMB @ 2k + Haswell

nvidia has g sync if that matters to you.

eyefinisty is much better for multimonitor.

All depends on what you value, and what aspects of your game / computer matter most for you.

I still say go nvidia.. if you actually actively game.. power efficiency..

But then again....   refresh is around the corner now.... so maybe wait just a little bit.

390x rumor'z abrewin'   but we know it'll be pretty beast...

the 970 is a great choice, especially when you consider that it makes sli configs easy and affordable. If you ever need to upgrade in the future, adding another 970 would do the trick!

you get around 10% more performance out of the 970! Did a lot a research for my recently built pc but bare this in mind, I am not a nvidia or amd fan boy or anything just wanted the best bang for the buck gpu.
