That one guy just sold caps that didn't fit right promised replacements and hasn't been seen since.

This is true; it's hard to know people's intentions. And they probably are a mix of money/interest anyway.
I still think we should support them. I've bought some crappy caps that are now sitting in a drawer, but they were only a few bucks then and the guy is doing some cool stuff now.
