What do you guys think about this PC Master Race scandal. I think the whole thing is stupid as hell, but the meme is also in really poor taste, mostly parroted by immature teenage boys and immature adult boys. (no offense to any present PC Mustard Rice company.) I think a lot of these guys will look back in 10 years time and cringe. I've never seen anyone wearing a PCMR shirt in real life, but if I ever do, I'll definitely be judging them.

On a serious note, its supposed to be all in good fun, but there are people that take it to the extreme. Its those people that cause most of the issues associated with the term in the first place. The subreddit dedicated to it is just a place for steam worshipping / "enlightening", but there is a large amount of console bashing as well. Its usually made out of fun or to poke fun at random YouTube comments of people with a less than tech-savvy knowledge of PCs. Almost everyone there is friendly, and doesn't scold people for playing and enjoying consoles outside of the subreddit (although they probably do look down upon them). The term does sound demeaning to people that do not use PC's and can leave quite a bad impression, which should probably change if PC wants to gain support of a few mainstream console developers. I feel that it should be more of a movement to educate people on the capabilities of a PC and how they can achieve a slightly better experience for almost the same price, while saving a lot of money on games and in turn allows you to upgrade, etc.. But that requires cooperation on both ends, which more often than not never happens.

What scandal? No idea what we are talking about here.

I've never seen the term used seriously amongst boards I've been on. As for the concept of a PC elitist the online comic Castle Vidons (http://www.castle-vidcons.com/) personifies this in character of Lord PC. Great comic, the archives cover some memorable gaming events in its own unique way.

PC Gamer published this article http://www.pcgamer.com/lets-stop-calling-ourselves-the-pc-master-race/
TL;DR they said it's bad to use the term "master race" because it invokes Nazi imagery. I agree. It's tasteless. But I also think it's pretty low on the list of the world's problems.

I was talking about the nomenclature, not PC vs. consoles :p

This is the kind of thinking that leads to jackasses shoot up a building of cartoonists because someone there made a joke they didn't like.
Get over it. It's a joke, and the world isn't going to walk on eggshells just to protect your delicate sensibilities. There are far better battles to be fought.
Besides, it's even stated in the terminology that this completely PC.

I know, I was just trying to say how only a toxic minority makes it an issue in the first place :) . Plus I hate the phrase, too. Makes people less likely to keep an open mind about PC.

Bro... I'm assuming you're directing that @ the PC Gamer author... but if directly to me, you totally misunderstood my point when you edited out the last sentence of my post:

Just like you said, there are far better battles to be fought. Couldn't agree more. People have said dumb things since time immemorial and they will continue to do so, especially on the Internet. I'm not butthurt about it, and I'm certainly not going to go on a crusade against it.
But I will speak my mind about it in the GH off topic section, and I am definitely saying it's tasteless and reprehensible. It is a blatant invocation of an ideology that resulted in extermination of millions of people. It's hugely cringeworthy: a bunch of anti-social, undereducated teenage n00bies invoking white power imagery in their gaming hobby.
Like I said, the whole thing is stupid. I would prefer to ignore it until it eventually goes away. But the PC Gamer article was not wrong.

Yeah, not directly at you specifically. I just hate that society has whipped itself into such a politically correct frenzy that nearly anything stated as an opinion is guaranteed to make a group(s) of people angry by going against their morals. I hate what this world is turning into where we have to fear the repercussions of an opinion, or worse yet, not even allowed to make a joke of any sort that is at the expense of anyone for fear of offending or retaliation.
People need to relax and realize that everyone has varying opinions, and some squiggles represented on a flickering screen that turn into noises in your brain have no more effect on your well-being then an oyster on the bottom of the Atlantic letting out a fart.

Very much agree. Though, I think it's totally natural for groups of people to react to opinions/statements. I don't think that is fixable or even needs fixing. That's just human nature. The problem is when groups of people try to silence the other side, or create consequences for the other side e.g. career destruction or character assassination. For example the people calling for the PC Gamer writer to be fired. That's cray-cray. But it goes both ways: have to let the Master Race people speak freely as well -- even if they are retards. :thumb:

drop knowledge on what? a self parody? might as well alert peta about those dog lovers calling cats evil, selfish creatures from hell.

There is no simple explanation to -The-War-....
For some it's about their pride or ego..
---- Tp4 spends 500 hours building PCs and looking at PC parts,, PC da-best!!
For others it's about how best to spend money, price to performance..
---- Tp4's too poor to buy both consoles AND a pc, so he must optimize his gaming around only 1 system..
And yet some people are simply after being RIGHT about something..
---- Tp4 has no AFK friends, so he has to win the Internet..
It could also be combinations of any such factors..
In the end.. the Real WINNER is the guy who actually has fun playing the vidya he paid for by working a ****ty job @ McD wholly ignorant of any and all intellectual debate..

The writer of that article is an utter moron and a fine example of dodgy games journalist.
That aside, PC master race is all in fun and does no harm to anybody nor is it offensive. Is is a joke in the gaming community
Nobody actually believes there is a console war or that people who own 2 handhelds are idorts or that people who have a PC are superior. We say things like this because gaming is supposed to be fun.
The problem here is with the Journalists who hate words like Gamer and PC Master race

this

The divergence of PC and Console gaming occurred initially due to COST...
People just couldn't afford a Whole decked out PC for games..
So they made simplified PCs, called Consoles..
But now that Technology is much cheaper.. It's inevitable that it will all converge onto One System..
Supporting Mice and Keyboard as main inputs is VERY likely on the next Xbox/PS ...
This is very much due to the Death of the living room, and people realizing that they don't HAVE TO leave the computer chair.. EVER....

pc gamer tries to attack pcmr. pcmr finds out said writer is in bed with ubisoft employee, literally. said employee has written positive articles (sometimes of games he hasnt played) about ubisoft without disclosing said relationship.
so yeah, i think pc gamer and gaming journalism as a whole need to worry about other **** than a ****ing term.
-
Video game "consoles" were born from the desire to play arcade games at home instead of having to go to a game room/hall or video arcade.

crusade
I'm offended by your use of this word. The Crusades killed millions of people for religious conquest, and you're doing a disservice to those lost in the Crusades and their descendants by using this term so loosely. I think we should push to stop using this word for anything outside the context of describing how terrible the true events were.
See? I can do it too.
