Post by: wellington1869 on Tue, 11 August 2009, 10:55:16
its ridiculously hot in nyc.

so hot that i'm considering going to the library just for the industrial air conditioning.  My puny window airconditioner just isnt cutting it.

how hot is it? Lets see, at 6am this morning, it was like 80 degrees out. :)
It got worse from there :)

Could you give this in degrees Kelvin, please? We should really adapt to SI units as soon as possible.

It's been over 100 F here for about two months straight.  It's been horrible.  Who said global warming was a bunch of horsesh*t?

Hey it's Texas it's summer get over it. I would not call it horrible though. If you want horrible go to Houston where you have both the heat and the humidity to deal with (I grew up there) now that is horrible. I really dislike the constant high humidity in Houston that is the main reason I moved to Austin. So now it is dry and Hot much easer to deal with.

San Antonio's weather is a little different than Austin's.  We get the Gulf moisture that gets us as humid as Houston and Corpus.  The Hill Country keeps the moisture (and heat) from getting up towards Austin.  Also, this is one of the hottest Summers we have had in several years.  My lawn feels it.  I need to shred it and sell it as hay.

Strange, it's still been a rather cool summer in Michigan, hovering around 70-85F, I'd estimate...

I think our hottest day this year was around 107 or 108 don't remember which. So today at only 102 was a nice day out as long as you stayed out of the sun and in the shade. I was out riding my bike today with the kids and it was nice. Just have to make sure and drink plenty of water and you will be OK. Oh just if you are wondering yes it was around 100 when we went riding but we had a little overcast and no direct sun light. If it had been a blue bird (no clouds) we would have waited a bit before going riding but still would have gone.

Do we get to complain about the weather where we live? Las Vegas here, over 100f every day! "Dry heat", all the humidity is replaced by an additional 10 degrees lol

it's purely subjective. I've talked with people from Florida that prefer it to be not as hot, and a little humid. I sweat like a pig in Orlando, my blood was made for Vegas weather.

With that said come move to Vegas, so I can geek out with someone about keyboards :P

I would take Phoenix over Tampa, but thats just me. You also need to consider the culture/taxes/people you will be living around. Phoenix wins on this, at least for me.

My self I prefer dry heat over humid heat. In dry heat at least sweat works the way it is supposed to. When I lived in Houston we had a saying that went something like this.
"Going out side is like taking a shower except you stink" What is meant by this is as soon as you walk out the door you are covered in sweat that does not evaporate until you walk into the AC.

After going to Florida for vacation I can say I would not like living there. Way to humid but at least it was not as hot as Houston.

Yeah, florida sucks big time for humidity during July,August and September. The winter months are quite nice though. Its cool and dry most of the time. But then again, Phoenix was very nice in the winter time too.

How come nobody took my ALPs bait about the guy who dresses up his GF in diapers and a bunny suit (http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?p=108786&highlight=alps+solder+bunny#post108786).  Now THAT still freaks me out.  Are all ALPs lovers like that?

Oh I know "the look" well. I get it every time a new keyboard shows up. But I really got when I told her how much she was spending on that keyboard out of Japan for my birthday.
